Firearms are how we law abiding citizens defend ourselves. Either from those who wish to do us harm or the Government. The Police are the clean up crew. I don't ever want it to reach that stage at my home. The security system and dog give me (and the intruder) fair warning, first creak on the stair the safety is already off.

Ditto Scott.

that's because switzerland has mandatory military service for men. i don't like to see guns used a political tool by anyone, liberal or conservative. simple as that. this is not a constitutional matter here, just my opinion.

my dogs are my security system. they will alert way before anyone is near the house.

the model 28 is a good one if you can have only one handgun. mainly because you can use .38 special ammo as well as .357.

I read that it was private gun ownership, not a result of conscription in Switzerland.  I'm happy we can have diverse opinions here without acrimony.  That's what makes this forum the best on the net.

Ironically, there is one country that has higher per capita gun ownership that the US.  Guess who?  Switzerland.

Not according to this:

Looks like Switzerland has been knocked out of the top spot, although the banner across the top of the page notes the data is suspect.  At least it does say "private gun ownership."  Oh well, Wiki Wiki!  I'm either right or wrong, depending on whose data you believe.  Funny thing about beliefs.  I've been wrong before, I shall repeat that feat again, just give me time.

BTW, I did remember where I "saw" the Swiss gun stat.  It wasn't an article as I initially thought, it actually is in a health care reform video done by PBS called "Sick Around the World."  An excellent video on comparative health care systems around the world (Asian, European and US). I highly recommend it.  You used to be able to watch it for free on their site.  Anyway, that video contains the Swiss gun stat I mentioned.  I'll drop them a note and suggest they check with the Wiki folks.

After I posted the wiki link I saw that the page was being disputed.  About the only thing that's not being questioned is "We're No. 1!" ;D

Can't we all agree on a little more bun control?

I'm offended.  This topic is about diversity.  Only one example Uwe?  There must be multiple examples of bun control.

Diversity is a dirty job, but someone has to do it:
