New Fender Jaguar Players bass
« on: October 13, 2011, 05:16:10 AM »
I like this Jag! Gone are all those switches, looks really cool all cleaned up. MAP is 399 I had a $50 coupon (missed 15%off by one day) so it cost me $349. Fenders pricing on this series is weird. The two pickup Tele MAPs for $599 and the Jag is $399 I don't see a $200 difference. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender-modern-player-jaguar-electric-bass-guitar

I like it. That's pretty much what I'm building right now, only using Walnut.  Straight forward Jag P/J.
Haven't made a neck decision yet, but that black-block maple looks nice with that body.

i need your financial advisor's name, please. fender must think that block inlays constitute a 'new' bass judging from their recent output.

The Tele should have an alder body, although that difference isn't 200$ worth

And the Squier Vintage Modified Jag in short scale with P/J pickups is $169...and I bought it on a 15% off sale...for $144.  SCORE!

This stock photo is identical to mine....

So they're using a Jazz Bass control plate now? Hmm...

On the Squier it's different from a Jazz bass control plate. Body is Koto what the heck is Koto ? Never heard of it.

Unless they've fixed the awful neck profile of the MIJ Jag basses, I'm not interested.

Don't know, don't care.  I confess to being a philistine, but body woods (or laminates) don't matter to me.

More helpfully....

I looked up Koto. It is compared to Limba but harder. Doesn't sound to bad.

PJ with VVT is my favorite pickup setup.  sometimes a little noisy but so versatile.  let us know what it is like...

I'll give a report when it comes in :) The Jag is Fenders closest thing to a NR, I am curious to see how it feels. Pretty sure it is a J contour neck, of course that can vary widely. If I like the bass and keep it I will put a Dimarzio P pup in it. I was going to buy the twin pup Tele but I have two Tele bases right now.
