Not as gritty as Youlden, but Dave Walker has always been my favorite singer for Savoy Brown.  I never knew that Walker replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath for that month when Ozzy threw a hissy fit.

i saw foghat 3 times around 73-74. these guys were always in town.

Hell, they were always in my neighborhood, particularly in the Savoy Brown days. They used to hang out with the Frigid Pink and stay with them when they were in town. Their Bass player lived about 3 blocks from me and the drummer about 5-6 blocks away.BTW: Youlden was always my favorite too ;D

I always liked Foghat, but never bought any of their stuff. Their live album was a big deal when I was in 8th grade. Got to see them in '79 with Rush at Comiskey Park. Some great, funky fingerstyle on Slow Ride.  :)

One of the first appearances of "funk" bass in a heavy rock song. Oddly enough, in the studio it was played by Nick Jameson, who produced the Fool For The City album. Most recently he played the president of Russia on "24".

Love Youlden but still my fave Savoy Brown is the live side of Blue Matter with Lonsome Dave singing .... It's classic 60s white boy blues ......

this band contributed a few members to savoy brown and blodwyn pig. as well as christine mcvie to fleetwood mack. it does get confusing.

Very cool info! And as they mention - Fool For the City got all funked up in the breakdown too.
