Title: The best song ever
Post by: Dave W on June 27, 2014, 02:12:52 PM
Dave Barry explains (http://online.wsj.com/articles/dave-barry-why-van-morrisons-gloria-is-the-best-song-ever-1403809634)  ;D

This is obviously important enough to be published in the Wall Street Journal!

Sorry, Ken, nothing having anything remotely to do with Jack Black would ever qualify as a best of anything. Worst, maybe.

I do admire his willingness to lampoon music and popular styles.

J A C K Black... J A C K Black

(I quite liked Hendrix's version of G-L-O-RI-A)

Blackmail is the only possible explanation for Jack Black. He must have tons of photos of studio executives having sexual intercourse with farm animals for them to ever let him in front of a camera. And his music career, such as it is, wouldn't exist without his movie career. His "acting" consists of making goofy faces. What a pathetic assclown.

I'm still incensed about Gulliver's Travels. One of the most brilliantly written satires ever, and thanks to Jack Black, it became a stupid comedy with his moronic mooning for the camera. No, I didn't watch it. The previews were enough to make me sick.

I love this place!  You can add David Cross, Zack whats-his-name, and the guy that played the sportscaster in Anchorman.

Add Will Farrell and the guy that plays Ace Ventura....

I'm more of a Red Green or Monty Python kind of guy

Agreed on Will Farrell.

I have actually caught Adam Sandler being funny once - liked Happy Gilmore.  Aside from that, meh.

Well, with respect to Van Morrison... he does score some points here:

"Right away, you know exactly what this song [Gloria] is about. It's about a woman who is approximately 5 feet, 4 inches, measured vertically, as opposed to horizontally."

Despite that, I still contend that this is in fact the best song ever...

There's a whole raft of "comedians" that do absolutely ZIP for me, including Adny Sadler, Wal Feral, and most of the MASK mouth mutant, and a whole bunch of new kiss-asses... Black is a novelty act, and a poor one at that... even going back some I'm struggling to think of one that stands out...
