Title: Marshall JCM 800 model 1552 Bass Cabinets
Post by: Hornisse on December 10, 2010, 02:19:55 PM
Just wondering if these cabinets are good for bass?  I think they were made in the 1980's and was wondering how they compare to some of the vintage Hi Watt cabs you guys like.  Each cabinet has 2x15 speakers.  Thanks!

I remember them from when they were new. They're pretty much a standard PA- type ported subwoofer style cab.  If you have a cab with smaller speakers for definition to pair with one, they're great. Otherwise, I hope you like a smooth jazz or reggae tone, because that's pretty much all you'll get.

Thanks for the reply.  That's what I figured as they are very large cabs!  They do look cool though.

Can they tolerate brighter speakers or is it the cab-tuning...?

I have one and I like it, sound wise not as boomy as my Hiwatt 2150. The Marshal with a good tube head works fine on it's own but is best paired with another cab. They come with Celestion Sidewinders which I can't stand, I put Eminence Deltas in mine and like it much better that way.
