who deserves a signature bass
« on: September 21, 2008, 06:38:28 AM »
there are so many out there that it's hard to keep track. i would vote a sig. martin abg for brian ritchie since  he is pretty much the godhead of acoustic playing, plus the martin is  what he plays most of the time these days.  of course ernie ball could reissue a sig. earthwood but that ain't gonna' happen.

- Mani of Stone Roses/Primal Scream (A Rick 3000)
- Mike Watt, a modded Gibson
- Uwe Hornung of Downing Beat (a black hardware, fluorescent yellow bodied Gibson 20/20 with Piezo only and little swastikas as inlays)
- There are several Duck Dunn sigs (Fender + Lakland) but has there ever been a James Jamerson P?
- A Bill Wyman Framus Starbass
- A Ronnie Wood doublecut Harmony
- A Sheryl Crow Kay or Guild
- An Andy Bell Burns Black Bison Bass with 'Bell Oxford' engraved at the pickguard instead of 'Burns London'.
- A Peter Hook semisolid
- A John Deacon P
- A Peter Quaife EB3
- A Rinus Gerritsen doubleneck Dano
- A Nick Lowe Humbuckered '72 P.
- An Alex James (Blur) Precision with an integrated fuzz circuit (like the EB0F) to play 'Song 2'
- A Rick Danko Ripper of Ampeg Scroll Bass

- We also need more Entwistle signatures;) The Lakland 'Fenderbird' has to come out. And a white with blackguard slab bodied P.

There was a Jamerson Custom Shop P, a run of 100 made in 1991.

Sheryl Crow? I don't think so.

- A John Deacon P
Good idea. Rosewood board, TV logo, stripped, aged and with a tort guard.
The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

Well, Kays are being produced again, but those big bodied Guilds aren't... Could be nice. Not for miss Crow, but for us;)

YOU DO MARK!!

As for others...

Phil Lynott, Black '70s Precision with a mirror guard ( maple or rosewood ) Oh, well, I'm already doing one...... sorry Fender!
Geddy Lee, 4001 to go with his signature Jazz , Badass bridge and Schaller tuners
Robert Smith, Bass VI with blocks and binding, black ( so goth ) tort guard, lipstick and mascara
Krist Novoselic, Ripper, black, dents and dings and maybe a little blood from landing on his head
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

I reckon that if it wasn't for Mark the T-Bird line would have been closed down years ago  ;)  You keep them in business mate!  ;D

Just doin' my part ya know. ;D
I think Gibson should have had a Mike Dirnt sig.........they missed it big with him.
You think the could have done something for Jack Bruce when the Cream reunion was going on too.......
But then we are talking about Gibson and basses, so..........
And yes I'd love to have a Sig Thunderbird, no stock color they've ever used before would be allowed, 70's body and headstock with either one or two pick ups an offensive amount of chrome, perloid block inlays and large clover tuners...... A girl can dream at least  ;)

Maybe, but Dirnt had stopped using the Gibson by the time Green Day hit it big. And Jack's Warwick endorsement probably would have prevented Gibson from getting involved even if they were interested.

There's a name I haven't heard in a while!  I still listen to Cry of Love now and then.
