Guitars Etc. / Re: Sunn guitar
« on: June 07, 2017, 08:03:39 PM »
I'm one of the few active members over there, and I don't think I can recall ever seeing anything like this. I know there were some Sunn branded guitars made post-Fender buyout, namely the Mustang, which was a cheap Strat variation. Never seen anything like this. Given the red logo, it definitely fits into the Hartzell-era, and the 80s. Best of luck with the search for info, let me know what you manage to find out. It's a rare one if it's legit, that's for certain. Whether that make it valuable or not is hard to say.

Idk, $590 doesn't seem that bad. I think it looks pretty sweet. I wonder if it's standard 4x12 dimensions, so you could add it to a stack. If it was closer to me, I'd probably snag it, especially since you get a spare speaker. Anyways, here's how it sounds with guitar and a JBL speaker.

Fairly certain I played that red Precision above. Looks like that pic is from the Bass NorthWest page. If not that one, than another Octapus converted Precision. I really liked it. Standard Precision ergonomics, not so standard sound.

Wait: is that a nickel pup but chrome bridge?  Mod or just fashion faux pas at the factory?

I believe they came that way from the factory. At least, that's the same as what mine features.

I bought my Greco II for $750 last summer, with case, shipped I believe. I really love it, and god knows I can't afford an actual Gibson TB-II. I'm going to try picking another up some day, but only if I can get it for around the same price. I actually was in discussions with the guy for that one listed on Reverb down in Tacoma, but I had some other things come up. The one in the OP is real nice and clean, and while they aren't common, $1300 is a bit...steep.

By the way, the one form the OP IS back up on Reverb, same price:

I really like wah on a bass, I think it's a reallt evil sounding effect. I will say I think it works best when you're running two signals, such as wah and clear, or wah and fuzz, and wah and a different wah. I use the Chicago Iron Parachute Wah, which is an absolute brick, but has a phenomenal sweep and range.

Here's what mine sounds like:

I might keep an eye on this as well. If that headstock can't be saved and one has to be grafted anyways, maybe it'd look best with an 8 string headstock...

As a thunderbird clone, I think it looks dreadful. But as a homage to old Teisco and cheap beginner guitars of the 60s, it kind of nails the look.

A bit of a detour, but I spotted a Les Paul Signature bass in this video:

In my personal hell, this tune is playing on an endless loop. That way madness surely lies.

Also a wild Rivoli sighting.

Both bands are a bit of a lame '50s throwback really. I saw both clips on a BBC compilation show earlier today.

Ooof. And I personally like the original. But that was so milquetoast.

And another 4000. $2.9K

Damn, love the grain and burst on that. Wish my 4001v63 had that burst.

I'd probably go Black Dog, Pinball Wizard, and Crosstown Traffic, with runner-up being White Room. If it was Tales of Brave Ulysses, absolutely...

It's actually a gold plastic cover I believe, although it might actually be a black top with gold surround, it's hard to tell from the reflection. But I think it's all gold. Here's Tom doing a Q&A at a Gretsch exhibition demoing his new basses, he brings the 4 string out at around the 30 minute mark.

Here's a more short and sweet version, just playing, no talking, 4 string around the 7:10 minute mark:

EDIT: Turns out is is black with gold surround:

I actually saw that guitar in person earlier this year while I was in NYC. It is really something else. The finish has such depth, and the grain is absolutely gorgeous. It is flat out one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever seen.

Pretty sure this belongs or belonged to a member on Talkbass. I've seen it before, recognize the silver Dimarzio and switch.
