In my neverending search for a really solid sound,  I've been thinking of putting a 4x12 cab onto my 1x15 Ashdown combo to supplement it.  My only problem is that I really don't know what's out there, and Ashdown doesn't market any 12" cabs.

So, what are my choices?

GK offers a neo 412 but I haven't used one so I can't comment on them, except to say I've been happy with other GK gear I've used.

Thanks!  I was using a G&L rig back in 1978.  It had this weird cab - basically a folded horn, loaded with 4-10s, and then 2 front-mounted 12s in the space between the port openings.

I love my GK 4x12 Neo.I bet it would sound great with an Ashdown amp.I get nothing but compliments on my sound when I'm able to use it.Aguilar makes one that sounds good also.SWR used to make one but it was a beast weight wise

I had a Sunn 4x12 cab back in the early 90's and - while it was a monster to move - sounded like thunder. I'd suggest if you can't find a 4x12 today, stack a couple of 2x12's - same difference, easier to transport and you can use one or both depending on the gig. Pretty sure a 4x12 is gonna come in at 4 ohms though so that begs the question ..... what amp are you using?

i owned a great ashdown 2x12 for several years. just sold it recently as a matter of fact. it was a larger, deep 4 ohm cab and it sounded great.....once in a while i find one for sale out in the ether. it was not one of the unfortunately named "ass" line, either!!

Louder bass!.

I play out of a 6x12 cab and I can attest to the great tone of 12" speakers. You get a nice roundness that breaks up kind of like guitar speakers do when pushed. Make sure you keep Don at Low Down Sound in mind. He built my 6x12 and it is stunning. I won't say the price, but I'll tell you it was an incredible bargain. It has better construction than any Ampeg or Marshall 4x12 I had been considering!

Anyone have any experience mixing bass speakers? I'm currently running 6 Eminence Delta 12LFA speakers, and thinking I would swap out 3 of them with Eminence Delta 12A for a little more treble response. The 12LFA are rated 500W with a frequency response of 44hz-3khz, the 12A are rated 400W with a frequency response of 54hz-5khz. Does the difference in wattage handling pose a problem?

I have been a 15" speaker guy for decades but the newer 12" speakers are great. There are many to choose from that eliminate the need for a a bottomy 15". These days there are a lot of 2 12" cabs that will outperform just about any 2 15" cab from yesteryear in every category. A good 4 12" cab or a monster 6 12" like n!k has would fill any room you would likely encounter.

My cab is a Marshall VBC412, and sounds very awesome.  The weight sucks, and the casters that came with it really suck, but I deal, because wow.  I don't even really look at cabs now though.

I really can't stand the piercing sounds some of those metal coned 4x10 cabs can make.
