Jack Bruce is indeed a glaring omission from that list.  I'm cool with the rest of the list generally, although I don't rate Flea or Claypool either.

The fact that Jack Bruce is my favorite bassist makes the omission all that more glaring to me.  The list isn't really too bad, but the fact that Bruce was left out completely is inexcusable.

It's like Höfner forgetting about Macca or Fender not mentioning Jimi Hendrix. A howler.

I knew all was lost when people complained that they didn't know know who Jack Bruce was when he was on the cover of Bass Player magazine ten years ago.

I can think of reasons why Jack Bruce might not be in a list compiled by Gibson, such as his defection to Warwick. Or maybe they thought people would call bias. They should have made it the 10 best Gibson-playing bassists of all time, at least there would have been less room for argument.  :P :-\ :o :-X

Mark, you look like a cross between Carnaby Street and Hitler Youth in that photo.  Probably just what you were going for....?

Fraulein Rommel was not a casually applied nickname!  ;)

That's a nice BP feature; I don't know if they still have it since it has been years since I subscribed to BP.  It used to be a really good magazine, though.

People may have called bias if he weren't qualified. That's not the case with Jack, and these lists always reflect biases.

Gibson probably doesn't even realize Jack has played an EB-1 for years now. They're clueless.

"a cross between Carnaby Street and Hitler Youth"! That's a good one! And the answer: "Fraulein Rommel was not a casually applied nickname!"
Days like this it's a real pleasure to hang out in these enviroments!

He plays that EB-1 even though it is fretted and he loves his fretless Warwick. Call that devotion. Any brand worth its salt would have built him a signature EB-1 for the Cream reunion, just think how much effort Warwick puts in to please the man, they have just built a perfect replica of his Thumb bass for him - at almos 50.000 bucks a piece (it's made from the last pieces of old rosewood they could legally find and use, it's a limited run of three using up all that wood, one for Jack, one for the Warwick museum and one for an American collector willing to pay that much).

In contrast, "clueless" for Gibson is just right as a description.
