I'm digging the jacket.

I'm digging the carpet. And whatever getup the guitar player is wearing.
Where in God's name was this gig, anyhow?

This was probably about 1976 or so.  I'm not completely sure, but I think that this gig was at a place called Magilla's Pub in Island Lake, IL.  The first time we played there (it may have been where the pics were shot), we set off my homemade flashpots (aka pipe bombs on stands), and they shot straight up into the ceiling, where they stayed.  I revised my design, and allowed for a little pressure relief.  I'm surprised we didn't get seriously injured using those things.  We also had fireboxes.  Nothing but Hercules Red Dot in an open pan.  Ahh, to be young and ignorant.

Gary, are you familiar with The Boyzz? (not a glam band, I know)

Oh, yeah!  We did a couple gigs with them.  The drummer I mentioned in the double kick thread was Kent Cooper.  He and I spent a few nights talking, and were very close to putting a band together before I got laid up in my car accident.  Dan Buck joined one of my later bands, or so we thought, only to turn around and boot me out of my own band, Thief, after only a couple practices.  That was to become Dirty Dan and the Trash Band, but didn't pan out.  No love lost between us.  Gil Pini was one of the best guitarists I ever saw (with perfect pitch, he could tune up mid-song in front of a Marshall stack), but really went downhill later in Deluxury.
The Boyzz were a really good band that failed to make a dent when their record came out.  After a lackluster tour, they came back into Chicago pretty deflated.  Their shows turned into 90 minutes of rambling, and they only played about 4 songs.  The keyboardist, Anatole, wrote the theme song for America's Most Wanted.

Been listening to "Too Wild To Tame" alot lately. I loved that album when it came out and have recently rediscovered it along with some great YouTube clips from the late 70s. The Midwest always seems to produce really solid, salt-of-the-earth type bands. NJ has never really been good at it, and I'm envious of that.

I should also mention that Dave Angel, bassist for The Boyzz, owned the Embassy that I had for about 20 years.  He was one of a few guys that wanted it, but couldn't pay for it.

Well, you've got a story about everybody except Tafoya!  ;D
In the YouTube clips from the Agora, Dave Angel is playing an Explorer thingie with T-Bird pickups, and there appears to be a Bicentennial on a stand next to the drum riser...

Too bad about the Explorer thingie.  Dave's main bass was a black '64 Jazz that was highly modded.  It was a big, fat sounding bass that really drove the band.  His foundation, along with Kent, was one of the trademarks of The Boyzz.  That, along with Dan Davis, their manager, who brought the "motivational" substances for the show.  My wife loved Dave Angel, and still does.  He was great live, and used to whip his hair around like a maniac.  I hated him for that.

Gary, a guitarist I play with has mentioned the Gil Pini name a few times this year. They work the same day job. My guy opened for The Boyzz a few times and recognized Gil right away. Small world.

I was fraaaaame-eda.  Love it.

In the spirit of the season, here's a Christmas song from a very early SAHB.  Pre-makeup, and Chris Glen is sporting a beard.
