This looks like a Starfire bass with a Dark star in it, does anyone know what Jesse Colin Young (great last name ;D) played on Get Together? Whatever it was it sounded great, almost like a fretless.

Also a really cool looking bass in this video:

I just found out why Get Together had such a good bass sound, it was produced by Felix Pappalardi.

Thumbs up to Papa Felixlardi.

Yup Felix was great, he produced their first two albums. No one knows what kind of bass that is in the second video and/or knows what kind of bass he played in Get Together?

I saw reference that it might have been one of Rick Turners first builds. He apparently used to jam with Jerry Corbitt prior to The Youngbloods being formed, so he probably connected with Jesse Colin Young that way.
Wish I could find a good photo of the bass, though...

It's a beautiful looking bass whatever it is. I wonder if I can contact Jesse Colin Young somehow on line? I'll look around.

There's an email contact, probably for the webmaster.

Thanks Dave, I just e-mailed them. If I hear back I'll post on it.

OK here's the answer if not from him, from his website anyway:
Jesse used a red Guild Starfire bass....1 pickup.... on Get Together
through an Ampeg tube amp and later switched to a Dan Armstrong hot
rodded Danelectro Longhorn. Later he kept the longhorn neck and
switched to a Dano guitar body customized by Armstrong which he played
until he gave up bass and went back to guitar.
-
Interesting. Does that mean that the bass in the second video is the customized Dano body with the Longhorn neck? Doesn't look like a Longhorn neck to me.
-
Whoever answered must have forgotten about this one, that doesn't look like a Danelectro neck to me either. Looks more like a Gibson or Guild neck but it has inlays, so who knows.
