New Oversized Gibson Les Paul Bass

Until we can see it next to standard body, it's hard to tell. May be longer and wider.

I saw nothing wrong with the smaller body. Uwe's probably right that some others thought it too guitar-like.

I think I'd prefer the bigger body,as long as it didn't weight 20 lbs.

I like the guitar size body too, but just with the Warwick bridge/anchor combination. The standard stopbar being that close to the body edge just doesn't appeal too much to me, the Warwick anchor looked much better close to the edge. A Alembic bridge/anchor would've looked even better.

The position of the stopbar tailpiece on the oversized body looks just perfect to me though.

I still like the old one a bit more looks wise- mainly due that wonderful German bridge. The Gold does look more vibrant on the custom shop one as well (at least in the pictures) The new one's gold looks much like the JC gold which is not as brilliant, to me.

That it is bigger was also mentioned in the first thread. It was in the specs and I mentioned it. It looks really good in real life!!

Chris, you did mention it being oversized back in the first thread but I haven't seen any body dimensions posted by you or anyone else. Have they been published anywhere yet? They're not even on Gibson's specs page, which is pretty detailed even down to what glue they use.

The specs page does say that the body is chambered, but I'd still like to know the typical weight of the bass.

I think it felt surprisingly light for it's size. About 4 kilograms maybe?

That would be just perfect. To me, 4kg is about right for a bass.

I didn't find it heavy either. It's probably all chambered anyway, either Swiss cheese style or with even larger routings. Shame, I didn't do the finger knuckle knock test!

I did try that. but it didn't work because of all the noise. I just couldn't hear it.
I had a hard time hearing that nice guy Kevin talk, who was standing next to me.
