The Bass Zone / Cream "Strange Brew"
« on: November 20, 2012, 09:47:21 AM »
Here's what Jack played. I guess he was miffed about how Felix Pappalardi used his bass line from Lawdy Mama and thought it didn't work as well on the newly arranged Strange Brew. Sounds good to me though. One interesting part of the line is when E.C. starts his solo at around the second page of my transcription, Jack pulls of some hefty whole tone bends. I think it works best by bending up to E from the 10th fret of the E string, bending up to D from the 8th fret of the E string and releasing back to the C. The next bar has a bend up to A from the 10th fret of the A string and a release back to G. Have fun folks.

I'm with you bro. My only non Gibby is a G&L SB1, and she a real powerful mother and fits right in with the loud crowd. George Porter sure got his El Toro to sound good going through a Hartke.

A lot of that Sound Garden tune sounds like Dinosaur Jr. to me. Speaking of the Purple, didn't they throw in some wacky diminished altered stuff on "Super Trouper"?

I think this is a great example of Wyman's behind the beat groove. Nothing wrong about laying it down towards the back of the beat as long as your consistent about it, kinda like Paul Chambers.

Hi Fi systems are out there but they're all priced out of the reach of most average folk's budget. Would be sweet to have an analog tube driven stereo system but I'm not Bill Gates. I saw Wilson speakers at one place that can cost as much as a  new porsche :o

That's cool. What I find impressive about this, besides the playing, is how Woody can play his EB2 through an ampeg stack without feedback.

Is it me or does the pic of that bass show a little more travel between the string ball ends and the sadles than you usually see? Could it be Gibson finally reconfigured the 3 point bridge?

Got my bass back from the shop with Infeld Superalloys on and it sounds mighty fine. Turns out the extra shielding may not have been necessary since my tech found a bad ground wire connection but I figure it's good to have either way. This bass with these strings is truly a marriage made in heaven to my ears! ;D

I don't have anything to add about Kiss or their bassist Chaim Weitz, I just wanted to say it's good to know Uwe isn't a raging racist.

Hotter than hell was produced like crap but I like the tunes better. Btw Uwe, you may not come across too many latinos over there in Allemania but spic is a pretty derogatory term. I just hope nobody visiting or any members were offended.

Well from what I heard on another thread this bass is built by Mas Hino, who is apparently a very respected builder. Mas and Jimmy Coppollo were both under the tutellage of John Suhr. So if people will pay that much for an Alleva Coppollo I guess this isn't much of a stretch considering all the Nitro and "hand carving".
