Plant & his band The Sweet Sensations made a WONDERFUL album!
That was the "solo" album before he teamed up with Krauss.
His '93 Fate of Nations album is as good as the Coverdale/Page album that year!!
Speaking of Coverdale I complimented him on his birthday yesterday for continuing to ROCK to the MAX!
I mentioned that I consider Plant's new cd a waste of money since it's SO weak, wimpy & uninspired.
No cajones as Santana might say.
Plant co-wrote only one song on this Band of Joy (Bland Old Boy) lol album & the rest is covers & traditionals.
That indicates to me a new low level of lack of inspiration for him.
What did I expect, Uwe?
More than one good song. Angel Dance is ok. Cool that it's a Los Lobos toon & those guys driving are Lobos.
The rest of the album seems awfully boring & lame after first listen thru.
Like I said--No cajones!!
Like you Grog I only listened to Walking into Clarksdale once. haha
You've gotta wonder if Page & Plant were smacked out doing that album.
Growing old & mellowing out seems to be a factor but they did do a fine job of ROCKIN' as Zep for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute--the Zep Reunion!
They can do it if they want to!!!!
They oughta BLAST Achilles Last Stand & the rest of the Presence album like I did today & then pick up where they left off.

In today's world, one ill-considered term that would have been totally unremarkable in the 60's can get you crucified in public.

Too many people are actively LOOKING for an excuse to be offended.  They don't care about intent, only about finding something to pounce on.

Aside from that, no opinion.

It's not the first largely covers album he's done, Terr, there was - ignoring the Krauss one - this other one a few years back with Morning Dew and Hey Joe, I forgot the title. This new one reminds me of that.

For all his prowess as a singer, I never thought of Plant as much of a songwriter, he always needed co-writers to fully blossom.

And granted, Fate of Nations was a fine album, but that was almost 20 years ago. It was - for Plant at least - overtly commercial with songs such as 29 Palms, but I don't think he wants that type of music and that type of production anymore. His major influence in the last two decades has been American folk and the production of his solo work has become correpondingly more unrock. Plant today is closer (and wishes to be closer) to Lyle Lovett than to, say, even the Yardbirds, much less Led Zep.

I respect that, a man must do what a man must do. If he would have enjoyed himself being the Led Zep god again at the O2 concert or if he would have needed the money, he would have reunified Led Zep then and there. But he didn't, which means (a) he doesn't think that banshee wailing songs he co-wrote as a young man befits a man his age, (b) he has enough money, and (c) he doen't need the adoration of millions of Zep fans to feel good today.

It's ok to be Mick Jagger and the Stones are your family and you've decided to die with your boots on on stage. But it's just as ok to be Robert Plant and say "I was a huge part of what made Led Zep special, but that was thirty years ago and I am something different now and have no urge to go back".
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Yep that sums it up.
There's an interesting interview with him in Mojo where he explains why he doesn't want to have a part in the Led Zep reunion.

Here is a review of his performance in Mobile, Alabama where he played a few months ago.  Although I'm actually pretty far away from there, I've spent a lot of time in Mobile.  To me this is like reading a local review.  Notice that the word "spooky" is used in the review.  Not "spook" but close.  In this case it's referring to a particular type of folk music.  I'm still not completely sure what Plant himself meant when he used the term.  This review about the music he likes to play now seems to go along with some of the posts here.

Good review, I think. This quote seems pertinent;

"He seems to understand the value of past successes: Having them is great. Not being a prisoner of them is better."

Good quote, too bad more stars don't understand this.

OTOH, that doesn't mean anyone has to like his new stuff.

I wasn't a big Zeppelin fan but I think he should have toured with Zeppelin one last time give the fans a chance to say goodby it wouldn't have hurt him I thought it was petty.

I was never much of LZ fan myself.  One thing to keep in mind is that he just can't shriek like that anymore - that was obvious, to me anyway, on the reunion show.  It sure sounded like they tuned down a whole step to begin with.

Maybe he still doesn't consider it Zeppelin without John Bonham.

And I could understand his point of view but he could have agreed to do a Cream type tour say New York Los Angeles Germany and England. Do a 4 disc DVD of the shows and everyone would be happy.

Plant should re-NIG the spook statement.

Take some viagra or put rubber bands on your balls or whatever you gotta do to gear up for a Zep tour & just DO IT, Robertski.
You'll be glad you did & so will all us diehard Zep fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would young Jason be able to handle a 45 minute version of Moby Dick... come to think of it, could I...? ;)

Jason ROCKS! I'd LOVE to watch him play a long solo at a loooong Zep show!

This Plant album is perfect for the Bookstore & Starbucks I hang out in.
