BTW: Nothing that much heralded new bass player played on those first three songs made me listen up, perhaps I even miss Jason Newsted's pick attack sound a little in the mix.

Robert Trujillo's massive talent is somewhat wasted in Metallica. Pick up some Infectious Grooves to hear just what a monster bassist he really is. I never had the desire or, to be honest, the patience to play that way, but I'm a huge fan of that style when it's done that well. Then again, if he's playing a part that serves the song it shows he really is a bass player and doesn't need to prove himself to anyone.

I haven't heard the Guitar Hero mixes, but I have read some analysis of the mastering and even the guy that mastered the album has kind of disowned it (blaming it on the loudness wars). I've heard the album a few times and I hear Master of Puppets and In Justice pretty strongly, which is an improvement to my ears. Obvious clipping on an album from a band of this stature is pretty embarrassing though.
