Title: Homeless Movie Lovers Rejoice!
Post by: Rhythm N. Bliss on October 23, 2010, 04:12:49 PM
I've been living outa my van for a year with 3 tvs & tons of other stuff in storage.
So I need to catch up on movies altho I've seen a lot in theaters.
I've never had a big screen tv. The biggest one I've got is a 32" Sony Trinitron.
I've never had a laptop either so I'm thinking about getting a Macbook Pro with 17" screen.
They average about 9 hun used & I found one that is super loaded for that price!
The beauty of these is you can not only watch movies in a van or ANYWHERE
but you can use 'em onstage for those backing tracks & so forth.
Last night a friend asked me, "Why doncha just get a little portable dvd player at Walmart?"
So today I checked 'em out & tho they start at about $60 the best Sony ones  are 2 hun + & they're only 9" or 10" screens.
Then I checked out the Big Screen TVS & Lo & BEHOLD they've got portable 42" screens for about 9 hun now!
The same price as a used Macbook but of course without Pro Tools capabilities...
...until you connect your Macbook into it! which gives you not only backing tracks onstage, but LIGHTSHOW capabilities!!
Eventually I will have BOTH & ROCK stages with 'em!!
That justifies buying the 42 inch MEGA TV, doncha think?
For now I just wanna watch movies & I can do that IN ROYAL STYLE in my van with this wi-fi sucker by just buying a $70 broadband gizmo & paying $40 a mo. for a Virgin connection.
Then I can watch movies & stuff 24/7 on a 42" screen!

Might help me seduce ladies into my Shaggin' Wagon tooo
Neee-ya ha haaaa

Hmmmm I reckon I'd be needin' a generator atop ze van for a Big Screen.
Still....considering it!

May wait til Black Friday!

I'd focus on finding somewhere to live before buying a big screen TV, but that's just me.  Probably more difficult to have 50 year old basses stolen from a house than a van too.

I've got a mortgage and a car payment among other things and still can't afford a flat screen tv.   :-[

A roof over your head Terr the most important thing.

Me too.  I vote for an address over sleeping in cars, or under a highway, office building stairwells, etc.  And paying for storage.  It would make for a good book though.

I'll pile on too - a roof over you head trumps a TV.

Be safe bro :)

Yeah, you guys are probly right who say to get a place.
I just got SO fed up with the people I had houses with.
I'm diggin' the solitude! My van's roof is fine, really. lol
It's a conversion van so it's pretty cool & comfy.
I just thot watching movies would make it feel more like home, y'know?
As far as being SECURE--I would CHAIN that sucker up!
Thinking about making my van like an armored car! Seriously.

What I really need is a BIG warehouse space for a music & art studio!!
So I'm gonna stay focused on that & forget a laptop or tv.
These library puters are ok & FREE to use, & a cyber cafe I go to is only $2 an hour!!
The puters in both places have been running REAL freakin' s-l-o-w lately tho.

The new Vizio 42", 47" & 55" tvs have wifi internet action!
The remote opens up into a keyboard. Pretty spiffy!!!
Hey Hornisse~ You can get a regular 42" Vizio for 5 bills now. wow

Had my first sitar lesson today. It was AWESOME! My teacher ROCKS!
I can sit in the back of my van & play.
That's better than a laptop &/or tv anyday!! ..or night. :D

Weather's GREAT here in Surf City btw. Going to the beach tomorrow!

I thought I felt an obtuse wind blowing through the place.

Maybe a road trip with pics from wherever you land...?

I guess a van/bus/truck/car is technically a "roof" over your head... ;)

50 year old basses, hand made boutique basses on order, a Corvette and a sitar - but finding a camera seems to be the tricky bit.  Maybe Treena has a spare camera?

Vette was FUN but I'm MIGHTY glad I sold it last week!

One cool thing about my sitar teacher is that he has students all over the globe & he teaches them one on one with Skype.
I can move up to Sac soon & still take classes once a week with Skype.
If I get a laptop I can even continue classes while traveling, touring next summer!
Eventually I'll be back in Hawaii & sitar classes will continue no problem. :D

Funny how I'm getting such b.s. feedback here from some of you mofos.
Downright cruel & very uncool. You ain't cool as you think you are is all the more I'll say about that.

Yeah, I've had some setbacks but I will keep living life to the fullest the best I can & remain cheerful!

 ;D ;D ;D

Has anyone ever seen Terr and Treena in the same room at the same time?

To be fair, Treena had many basses, they were just in other peoples houses.  ;)

That's why I have ugly furniture: easy authentication.  :P

People wanted to help you on the "stolen EB-1 situation" but you kept ignoring their questions, which may be influencing perceptions about you.  But hey, that's just one example.

Right on Terr.  I was poking fun with the Chris Farley "Van down by the river" skit.  That always cracks me up.  I think what most concerns me is that instead of spending exorbitant sums of $$ on such things as first year Gibson basses or Zemaitis guitars I'd much rather see you having a roof over your head.  I'd love to be able to buy expensive guitars too, believe me.  But I really don't like sleeping in a car.  King size pillow top mattresses are much nicer.   :)  I really don't enjoy working 10 hour days especially in the 100 + degree summers here in central Texas but the bills must be paid.  Jobs aren't all that bad.  Plus I make extra money playing weekends in a cover band.  I guess priorities are different when you have a wife and kids at home.

I guess my only comments regarding Terr's situation are more personal ones. Honestly, I think it would be kind of cool to simplify my life, sell the house, put a slide in camper in the back of the diesel and set off for parts unknown for even long periods. For me it wouldn't be a permanent solution though, as I like having some place to go back to in the end.

On a more realistic level though, if I was in danger of losing the house, I'd sell off a bunch of motorcycles and some of the bass stuff in a heartbeat. And before you get any funny ideas, Baz, NO I'm not selling you the pickups out of the Jap Epi T-bird!  ;D

to be truthfull terr, the main gripe  is that you blew through a nice inheritance then scoffed at the idea of getting a job when it was gone. then you dismissed people who were tryng to talk sense to you. that my friend is uncool.

treena! the thing i remember most is the band whose music 'she borrowed'. it was a band called dreadnaught and the bassplayer claimed he had put down 72 bass tracks on one of his tunes treena posted!  seems a bit much me thinks, but there is an interesting bass philosophy.

I must of missed the whole "Treena" thing............

I'm obviously too preoccupied with certain "things"  ;)

I think what most of us were expressing Terr is concern.  A roof, walls, a locking door, running water and electricity - most importantly a sh*tter!

And Mark, make sure you keep that thing out of your mouth :P  You never know where it's been...

My fav site has a smiley flipping the bird with both hands!! We need that here.  nlm  mln

Anyway, I'll have a place soon, so maybe those of you who look down your noses at me will stop thinking you're better than me when I do.
Probly not tho. lol

I might trade my Mac G5 & ProTools temporarily to my guitarplayer bud for his Macbook Pro laptop.
Then he can finish mixing our songs & I can watch movies in my van.

Buzz, no doubt some of you have posted out of concern. That doesn't apply to all of us.

Some others of us have heard six or seven years of wildly improbable tales that seem to be getting more bizarre by the year. We're skeptical, to say the least.

Terr, nobody in this thread is looking down his nose at you. If you think that, then what's been said has gone right over your head.

The problem is that you make bizarre claims and then when someone questions you, you ignore them. That leads some people to dismiss just about everything you say.

Have I made myself clear or do I need to spell it out?
