The Stoner Rock Thread....
« on: March 11, 2008, 10:28:15 AM »
Who are your favorite bands in this genre?  (Y'all know these bands - think back in the day, the back seat of the Camaro/Mustang, etc...)

This one is definitive:

Soundgarden and Sabbath, of course!

Here's a few others that I like:

   Sasquatch
   The Atomic Bitchwax
   Om
   Amplified Heat (thanks to Dave)

I'm bad with all these genres - would The Melvins count here?

Ahhh now there's some High School memories........Gettin' Baked and listening to:

Led Zepplin
Aerosmith
(reluctantly admitted) Foghat

And of course I really loved Slade and Alice Cooper. I miss the 70's  ;)

Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

I suppose Stoner Rock owes a debt to its 60's cousin "Psychedelic Rock" - hell, they might be the same thing in the Windmills of My Mind!   8)

These guys helped build the bridge:

Austin's Amplified Heat (with EB-0 action):

Sorry the vocals aren't clear but you get the idea.

Kyuss:

Queens of the Stone Age (featuring Josh Homme from Kyuss):

Fu Manchu:

I'm not sure if they're stoner rock or not, but Wolfmother is good:

;)

Hey! No shame in Foghat! :D  When I hear a Foghat tune in the supermarket or some such mundane place it's held up well....

As for me - Rush - I wore out three copies of 2112 until met I this funky punk girl that said my music was lame and retarded  :P  I should listen to what she was listeing to :o  Had I known that I could have named a band The Buzzcocks I would have gone punk sooner 8)

We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

I was just gonna say Dylan's EVERYBODY MUST GET STONED & Commander Cody & the Lost Planet Airmen's DOWN TO SEEDS n STEMS AGAIN BLUES & the Airplane's WHITE RABBIT...

...but I figure this is a good place to put this song I just wrote which is Anti-Stoner Rock & it's a true story:

Hey Steve----Time to leave!
by Terrence Davis

You give some f***ers the moon with a rubber band
& they don't even say "Thanks" they just hold out their other hand
Till you have to kick 'em outa your home....& outa your band!!

Hey Steve---Time to Leave! (repeat a few times)

You drove me too far
Now I want you far away from me!

I let you live in my home for free & you showed no gratitude
You put no heart an' soul into my songs cuz you've got a rotten attitude
Work is a 4 letter word to you...you just wanna play. Ain't that right?
as you stare at the tv stoned outa your mind all day & half the night
You're so proud of your guitar skills but you mostly wheedle & wank
& you've never had an extra dollar you could put in the bank.
You never got your own internet connection or your own phone line
You spent what little bread you had on intoxication as you tied up mine
with your pitiful dating service "coldies" & job applications
the only connection you made was with your drug connections

You give some f***ers the moon with a rubber band
& they don't even say "Thanks" they just hold out their other hand
Till you have to kick 'em outa your home....& outa your band!!

Hey Steve---Time to Leave! (repeat several times)

You drove me too far
Now I want you far away from me!

What's worse is the cycle of woe you've deliberately fallen into
It's completely insane to mix drugs & alcohol like you do
That's why so many rockers die young & you know it damn well
You subject yourself & those around you to a living hell.
Your excuse is....you're in pain
but what you really are....is INSANE!
You get loaded more & more
then hurt your self more & more
So you keep increasing the doses of drugs & alcohol
as you eat my food! You've got a lot of gall

You seriously hurt your back but you don't remember how, do you?
I'm guessin' you tried to blow yourself when you were drunk hahaaa
& it's obviously outa whack cuz you're head is up your ass too!!
As you can see I've got no sympathy for ya at all anymore, you punk!

You give some f***ers the moon with a rubber band
& they don't even say "Thanks" they just hold out their other hand
Till ya have to kick 'em outa your home...& outa your band!!

Hey Steve---Time to Leave! (repeat many times)

You drove me too far
Now I want you far away from me

You drove me too far
Now I want you far away from me

You drove me too far
Now I want you far away from me

It's one of those songs that's full of anger that are so popular today. :D
