3rd Eye Girl, an all-female three-piece is his new pasttime. I do like the 'fro!

This is more what you know and expect of him - that sparse James Brown'esque funk -, but still good, the horn avalanche at the end is pretty damn cool:

You sure that's a girl on guitar? Looks more like little Brian Warner.

Ahh...the Purple Leprechaun, his sightings around Minneappolis were retold as legend when I lived there.

Oh come on, where do you guys live? Undercuts have been so long the fashion, they are almost not fashion anymore.

Yes, they're girls in case you were wondering.

Any comments about the music, you bunch of aging misogynist misfits?

I really liked the first song.  Watched the video twice.  I've never been a Prince fan, but most of the music out there now is so atrocious that something like this sounds pretty good to me.

It's not those who write the laws that have the greatest impact on society.  It's those who write the songs.

Hey, hey!  I've been a Prince fan for a long time.  The whole 1999 album was one of my favorites.   I'd listen to it at the UIC library while studying before class.

Ok, so you are not all KKK members then.

I think the little Minneapolitan is a weirdo, but a gifted one. He's good at more than one thing and his music has a vast attention to detail without ever sounding labored or artificial. Yeah, and I like his guitar playing. The Rolling Stones could use a lead guitarist like that.

Never was a big Prince fan, though I do think he's ridiculously talented. His stuff always sounded sterile and synthetic to me, and that's coming from an admitted "new wave guy".  :P But, when he rocks out with a small band like this, he's got my attention. Hannah the drummer is a local Chicago area girl. Very talented, and she can really sing too! Her parents were at my last gig. Cool peeps.

The whole thing sounds a little Living Color'ish to me, but more pop content, probably due to the master's/leprechaun's voice.

The Purple Runt's music is not to my taste at all, and I've never understood why people would put up with his bizarre behavior. I'll grant that he's a talented instrumentalist.

When I lived in the frigid north tundra of Minneapolis he was known for making random appearances.  Once got lucky enough to be sitting at a latin bar we he and his entourage came in, he took the stage and played for about an hour and half.  I was told he's been known to play for hours like that.  All I can really say is his solos went on forever and were all over the place.....it reminded me of a scene from Back to the Future when Marty Mcfly plays Johnny Be Good to the 50s crowd....you weren't quite sure what you just witnessed but it was somehow wildly impressive!  ;D

and he really is about the size of postage stamp.

I'd like to hear Prince put out a live album devoid of his meticulous studio polish and with him just cutting loose. You just know that he must have his bowel movements scheduled to the second. I think he invests too much time in the crafting of songs to recognize that only one or two tracks off an entire album are worth keeping. Unfortunately, he has too much money and power for another producer to hammer/draw out his true inner Hendrix on a release. I love his music, but the only Prince albums worth having are the greatest hits, which is a shame, because there is so much more genius in him than what gets out. But money buys you sycophants and fame likewise. Paisley Park is an amazing studio and he has a wonderful ear for talent. He just has too many people around him who only call him "sir."

That pretty much sums it up for me. The guy can play like a SOB, but I can't stand him.
