RIP, Allen Lanier
« on: August 15, 2013, 05:30:07 AM »
This makes me very sad. Allen's contributions to Blue Öyster Cult's music over the decades has helped make it one of my very favorite bands. He will be missed. So long, Allen, and thanks for all the great music.

The best version of "Last Days of May" I've ever heard, with Allen on the Telecaster.

 R.I.P. Allen.

I'm really glad I got to see B.O.C. IIRC at least 4 times - Secret Treaties is one of my all time faves.
Thanks for the great music.

All of the musicians of our youth start dropping off.  RIP Allen.  It was his relationship with Patti Smith that gave BOC "Fires of Unknown Origin"

I got to see them on their very first tour, from about 10 feet off the stage.  Exciting then, even as a very stripped and raw band live.  And I'll go to my grave affirming that Buck Dharma was left handed on that tour.  We were close enough that his volume knob practically went up my friend's nostril.

I sure wish I had been old enough to have absorbed more of the show I saw in Atlanta '76. It rained. They had to stop for a bit. Don't remember if they used the lasers that were supposed to be a big deal on that tour. RIP Allen...

I saw them four or five times between 1985 and 2000. Once in Winston-Salem after a show I ran up to the edge of the stage as they were exiting and four of the guys, including Allen signed my ticket sub. Eric Bloom added a BÖC symbol to his signature. :)

I used to etch the symbol on all my tools back in the seventies, and I still have one of Buck's guitar picks in my tin where I keep my spares... gotta dig out some pics...

That's sad, he was the cool, NYC-artsy BÖCie. You could have pictured him just as well in Patti's backing band. Always loved that Joan Crawford piano intro.

He wrote one of BÖC's most beautiful songs, In Thee ... tomorrow be cold without you ...

Here's a nice round up of his career.
