I might not limit myself to a bass as I'd also contemplate a mandolin...

Yes I have been seriously thinking about getting a  Mandolin to muck around on.

It's a bit thicker, not by much - perhaps more rounded feel to it.  And it feels like you picked up an old 72 in a way by the rubbed down neck finish and feel they did with it.

My son has a 75 Jazz and the neck on that is slightly chunkier than other Jazzes I have played.

Birth year basses, I almost sorta got mine.
I have always fancied a blonde single coil P Bass from my birth year, 1957 or a TBird II. When I retired just under a year ago, my wife said she wanted to buy me a special bass. Exchange rate was (still is) deteriorating in Australia so I thought I would look locally or this could get prohibitively expensive. In any case, I would want to carefully check out and play a bass like that first before buying, if at all possible. So put feelers out in Australia, not really expecting to find anything.
Well, no joy on either front, although I did hear of a TBird II that a guy has had for a very long time but wasn't parting with. Good news is, I did find my "conception year bass", a wonderful absolutely original ash body 1956 P Bass, although not a blonde, a very hot brunette. It's the one in my avatar.

BTW It will be a hoot if Geddy gigs one of those T Birds or the Paisley Tele.

Hmm, I think I saw that a while back. Too dear for me.

Sorry... maybe I just missed something in the translation... when is a "V" bass not a "V" bass...? Not "V" shaped... only 4 strings...?

Me too, why is it called a V Bass?

True about the internet- looking for the same thing for a 1981 JCM800 2203.

Pickup just back here from SD Custom Shop- rewound- nice long leads in the original colours.
Tests 7.7.
Will be putting it back in tomorrow- glad I left the little end of coloured wire in place- great tip.
Thanks.

Congrats. They are a really versatile bass, if a little heavy. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. Both my Victorys- a Standard and an Artist- have the second type of tuner. :)

There's been a gold one for sale for ages in Australia- not sure if it is refin or not either.
The tuners on the one on eBay are different to those on my Victorys.
