What's even more stunning is that they managed to find a guy who plays Smoke On The Water with "power chords" in the wrong key.

OK so as funny as this is it beggars the question in relation to bass. What should be in the grab bag of bass licks and riffs when we test drive basses in stores?
It certainly wont be the bass line to Smoke on the water or Stairway to heaven.  :)

I almost always play In The Hall of the Mountain King from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite. Sometimes people even recognize it.

When I check out a bass, I hardly ever play "songs" - I just play eighth notes on the open strings. It keeps people wondering as to why I bother. ;D

And then say, hey, I know that Rainbow song!?

Tsk, tsk, Westheimer plays Blackmore or vice versa. Either way noteworthy. I see stadiums approaching ...

No, no, they never say that, and I never heard of this until now. I tried, Uwe, I got about 25 seconds in.

Now for the real thing.

The ultimate insult. Blackmore despises the key of A. That's one thing we have in common: G is my favorite key too. I like the way the deep G sounds on a bass, not too deep, not too high, just right.
