Fender Basses / Re: New idea for me on playing a gig...

I have a choice. I can look at the audience and smile, or I can look at the neck and hit most of the right notes.

Wasn't punk invented to stop stuff like this?

I've always seen Manson as the one true heir of Screamin Jay Hawkins

I'd have less trouble with Patti Smith if she didn't put her damned poetry into everything.

He also made the 30% CAGR claim in a NYT interview in 1994. But his profile on Gibson.com says "20% over the last decade", as does an interview with Larry LeBlanc in 2010.

Some of the growth will have come from the acquisitions. The interesting figure would be the like-for-like growth of the guitar business, but it doesn't look like he wants to tell us that.

Great you got to go. I decided not to risk it, and it would have involved serious travel.

In most of the Youtube clips you can either hear or see the JC, but not both. This one gets it though.

Seems to be a lot of long John Squire solos, some of the clips are 10-12 minutes long.

And the man himself briefly endorsing the JC on Basschat. It was him, didn't stay long though.

Great videos, love the songs and that bass sound is incredible.

Just to be controversial, I don't think my unmodified JCS was a million miles from that on Friday night, not as wide a gap as "Fenderish" and "Gibsonish" would imply. But I don't have a recording to check back on, just my impression. Maybe the disabled tone pot helps.

Prices ( and life as a whole  ;) ) are diffrent on this side of the pond. And much to my astonishment a White SG Bass without OHSC was sold for GBP 795 on evilBay yesterday ....

That was BIN from a shop, though, with a warranty. For a private sale, 675 isn't a great bargain, unless white is worth 200 quid.

The guy that runs the guitars.co.uk site used to have a shop with a very successful internet guitar business attached. Then it disappeared. Now he's doing this. I can't quite work out what it is, seems to be just private ads and a gateway to other shops.

I know what will happen if I use that, with my luck. Either a bee will stick to it, or it'll never dry.

Black pickup and pickguard. And no one could think of doing that when they made the black JC? I took the pickguard off because the yellow looks cheap and nasty against the black body, and the pickup would go too if there was an easy, drop-in replacement.

What would be the chances of selling a silverburst Epi JC with yellow pickup and pickguard and getting my money back?  ??? ???

what i find strange is that all the 60's Gibson guitar players all play Fenders now? Eric, Beck, Richards, Townsend. all did their best and most famous songs on Gibbies, why do they play stupid Strats now?

They got rattled by Hendrix.

Also buying 10 Strats to find one body and one neck that worked together was more fun than one Gibson that worked out of the box.

My Stones tribute band will be performing two songs live on a nationally televised daytime TV current affairs/variety show in July as part of a feature on Mick Jagger's birthday.  I hope the TV show's makeup person is outstanding at their job - this old fat guy will need it!   :o

I'd have thought you'd be an easy makeup job compared to any of the gnarled old wrinklies in the real Stones.

One night I went through all the Cream versions of Sunshine I could find on Youtube and that one with Eric on the SG sounds way the best to me.
