NBD: Thunderbird Studio
« on: September 06, 2014, 10:32:22 PM »
Found this on CL yesterday. Guy was looking to trade for an SG Standard guitar and I just happened to have one to spare!
Even came with the OHSC. Did a cleanup and restrung - it's a keeper! Heavier than I expected though. Not sure why they shrunk the pickguard so much on these...

Smooth and solid. The neck is a hair beefier than my Bicentennial, but nowhere near as big as my white Epi LE. Previous owner had it set up professionally, but there was lotsa funk on the neck. I took out the lighter fluid and my magic RubAway stick and made quick work of that.

Beautiful!  I really need to make it a point to get one of those. Great score!

It's funny, I was thinking about trading the 2001 SG for an Epi Classic IV, but I couldn't get my head around swapping a "legitimate" USA Gibby anything for an Indonesian-built bass. A black newer Gibson TBird showed up at the local GC last week, priced at $849 (sans case, IIRC). PLayed and sounded great, but... the finish was split along the bottom edge of the fingerboard (where it is glued to the neck) from the nut to about the 5th fret on both the bass and treble sides. There was also a nasty chunk taken out of the back of the headstock - down to the wood. I envisioned that the bass had taken a dive and impacted at the h'stock, with the shock  causing the aforementioned damage on 1-5. No telling what lay underneath, so I passed on that idea also. A day later, this one popped up.
