The all new Fender Assquire!
https://reverb.com/news/fender-builds-telecasters-with-original-bench-boards-from-the-hollywood-bowl
-
Wood you believe it...
I don't know, George... I'd pick this over Firebird X any day... there's something to be said for simple and quirky... a 50s "P" would be interesting...
-
I'm sure it has its market. I mean who wouldn't want to have the plank his mother sat on while she was all excited about John, Paul, George & Ringo - and then on his guitar! That's the nice thing about Fender, they'll do anything that is humidly possible to please even those groups hidden in the unlit crevices of their perceived markets.
Are there scent certificates?
-
I can't imagine anyone wanting an eyesore like that. I'm a Beatles fan, but the fact that it came from Hollywood Bowl wood means absolutely nothing to me. I'm probably overreacting, but ideas like this one seem kind of abnormal to me.
-
Sentimental boomer nonsense.
-
Fender and Gibson have made a lot of money selling sentimental boomer nonsense.
Now BOSS is getting into the act (https://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-BOS-BOX40-LIST)

Here's one made of wood from the seat if a different bowl:

Sentimental boomer nonsense.
:rimshot:

So - when BeeTL makes a guitar or bass out of old Remington ammo boxes, we applaud...but when Fender makes them out of this wood from the Hollywood Bowl, we sneer at it as "sentimental boomer nonsense??"
I don't get that. I think this is a pretty interesting idea.
You might quibble with the sonic qualities of "...Telecasters built to order using 100–year–old Alaskan yellow cedar from the Hollywood Bowl's original bench boards...." but aside from that, I don't see the problem.
I vote Yes! 8)

And some numbnuts will buy it!

I do when they charge $12,000 for it.
-
Well, the price is set to attract the suckers who are born every minute (or were between about 1946 and 1965...) but the concept isn't so nutty.
-
The price itself is obscene, though. It strikes me as something which might come from true money-grubbers. This isn't something like a vintage guitar that has an actual high value. This is an artificially contrived effort to sell something way high made out of wood people have sat on.
-
Brad isn't claiming that the Remington ammo boxes have anything to do with famous people or places. Big difference between that and what Fender's doing.
Also, as commenters pointed out, the seats in Hollywood Bowl were replaced in 1958 and again in 1981. Pardon me for doubting that these boards came from the original seats. I wouldn't believe it without provenance.
Hey, I still have enough walnut I bought in 1981 to build a guitar. It came from a tree chopped down by Dan'l Boone himself! (or maybe by Ed Ames with a tomahawk). It's true because I said so!
-
I think it's a pretty guitar.
No matter where that plank came from.
-
I'm not sure whether sitting, walking or standing on wood is relevant. Where the wood was used is what matters. If they did something similar (but priced sanely) with the seats at Red Rocks in Denver, you can bet it would be a big draw.
-
I wouldn't buy either, but I find this kind of thing more interesting than the Hollywood Bowl guitars.

£7,569 each!!!

£7,569 each!!!
They're practically giving them away.

:rimshot:
Well come on man, its a Telecaster made out of a bit of wood that somebody's arse might have been planted on when the Beatles were playing. Infused with a magic mixture of farts, spilled weed and beer.... Only it isn't anything of the sort. It looks like it is made out of scrap wood recovered from a demolished barn, costs as much as a car, and will never be played by a musician of any sort.
And Boss decide to reissue ancient two-knob pedals, for $899.99! What?!?!?!
-
But it's ass-blasted wood! You can't find that just anywhere!
Alaskan yellow cedar isn't even cedar. It's cypress.

Will Fender Japan make Aichi D3A "Val" dive bomber-inspired companion pieces with pearl (harbour) inlays and a (Tokyo-)rosewood fretboard? The Tora!-Tora!-Tora!-caster?

So much for Détente...
Gibson (Japan) could make a KamakaziBird... guaranteed to (neck) dive and bomb, or is that a StukaBird...? :vader:

After that they may consider making Teles out of wood from the Tunguska forests.

But plans for a Stukabird were shelved years ago, they couldn't come to grips with the feedback!!!

What about a metal Blackbird-bird?

It misses the optigrab.
-
I always wondered how the entire X-men team were supposed to fit in one of those.
-
At least, as long as Snow is on board, bad weather flying capabilities are not really a concern.
It sure is a timeless design.

Now that's good but still pales in comparison to Groggs acronym.
