Great! I've spent a week with him last year. he's the most nice and pleasant guy and very humble. Maybe even too humble. He was teaching at the Warwick Bass Camp and I was his driver/PA. It was so nice to see a great and melodic rock player between all the slap/funk/jazz virtuosos. Both Neil and I were a bit shy and uncomfortable about our playing between all those guys (Jaco's son, etc). One of the highlights was to see Neil play some Whitesnake songs (I made sure I saw the concert and the rehearsals) with guys like Bon Jovi's Phil X. I love his playing and much nicer than the slapping brigade.

I had some brakfasts, diners and bus rides with him and it was cool to hear all his stories about the basses he had. He amazed me every time with new stories.

He told me he was a graphic designer before he became a professional bass player.

Neil Murray (ex-Whitesnake, -Gary Moore, -Colosseum II, -Brian May) bought my book. And he just left a review on the site. Ain't that cool?

I'm impressed. Especially since I never saw him ever play a Gibson bass. Fender, Kramer, Aria Pro II, B.C. Rich and various boutique basses, yes.

His bass playing carried Fool for your Loving.

With his bubbling bass lines, he is a bit of a hard rock Rocco Prestia, he plays a lot more rhythmic nuances than most bassists of the genre. Very much a finger player in that regard.

He told me he had an EB-3 pickup installed in several basses. Not sure if he meant the mudbucker or the mini-humbucker.

And he owned a Les Paul Bass way back in 1976. He told me he only recalls using it during an encore with Colosseum during a gig at the Marquee.
He didn't feel comfortable with switching between long scale and short scale during a gig. So he sold it.

What is that Stratocaster bass by the way?

I can only take so much of Coverdale licking his lips, But I always liked the Strat Bass in that video. I saw it for sale a couple years ago and was briefly temped.

If I understood him right, he used mudbuckers.

That boutique Strat Bass was from some English luthier I believe.

Has any of you guys in the USA seen the latest edition of Bass Player magazine?
I hear there is a little article about The Gibson Bass Book in there. But the bookshops in Velp don't have the magazine... :-\
I'm quite curious what they say  8)

I know it is. But I can't buy it here.
So if any you guys happens to have one, maybe you could make a pic or scan?

Rob, I'll be right by a bookstore that normally carries it next Monday. If no one else here comes forward by then, I'll pick up a copy and scan it.

I will also try ABC in Amsterdam (American Book Center) who usually stocks it and I'll ask Jon.

Great book Rob. I really like the graphics work. Like the way the small image of a T-bird casts a little shadow on the larger image behind it. Very well done. I'm still in the 60s, but I expect the rest to be of equal quality!

I was at Chicago Music Exchange the other day, and they have a great selection of vintage Gibsons in stock. I plan to contact Marc over there and let him know about your book. Would be a great resource for them, and maybe they could sell some?

Thank you Tom.
That would be awesome.
Would it be an idea if I sent you an extra book, so you can give them one just to see if it's any good for them?
