I have always liked the look of those basses.
The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

11 lbs 3 oz? That's a featherweight Victory! The maple tree must have been on a diet.

It sure is.

I saw another NOS Victory Custom in a store about 5 years ago, they wanted $600 for it. Unfortunately it had a good sized hump in the 9th-12th fret area and it must have weighed at least 13 lbs.

This one looks much nicer, it should make someone happy if the price stays reasonable.

That one is a beauty! It's fully a pound heaver than my Vic Standard; jeez, how much could a second pup actually weigh?  ;D

If it was am 86, it would be a really late one, most tend to be from 81-83. The pic with the serial number seems to be gone.  An 82 is nothing special though and that particular fin is not unheard of either though most Victory Artists were fireburst. But it's not overpriced yet, given the fin anything below 1.000 bucks could be a reasonable deal. The prices for Victories never really rose through all these years though you don't see them as often anymore as you used to.

I have one in fireburst and as pristine.

The back of the headstock pics are still there, it's an 82 s/n unless Gibson did something irregular.

No there's nothing special about the year and the finish isn't rare, it's the condition that's driving the price. It's already higher than I've seen before for a Victory bass.

I don't see no other friggn' pics. You guys are weird.  :o

If his "antique fireburst" is just fireburst and not the brownish tobacco burst I thought, then the bass is utterly unremarkable. For some reason, most Vic Artist and Custom tend to be in less roadworn shape than the Standards.

Some years ago, there was a Vic Artist fretless on EBay, good condition, 600 bucks or something, I regret not pulling the trigger on that.

"Since Gibson Victory basses were only produced in limited quantities between 1981-1986 ..."

Yeah, sure, very rare, limited number like anything produced by mankind. Never mind how it was their mainstay bass (and the last really aggressive large scale attempt to combat Fender).  The only Vics that deserve a "rare" tag are probably the confederate fin ones and the few Custom models (two pups, but sans the active electronics) that crept out.
