Twins
« on: January 15, 2010, 06:06:09 AM »
Hi. Newbie to this place, found it through Kenny Five O.
This is a place for bass, with a little space for guitar, so I thought I would combine the two.
Kenny has seen this one, so I hope you enjoy.
He is called "Mr Lee".
I have several other Twins, so I will list them up as well.
Looking forward to being part of all that is Bass Outpost. :)

Cheers.
Flat Eric. :)

Where's Ilan hiding...?  ;D

Howdy FE... Welcome to the LBO...

Now Gents... if you remember back to my early days when I was a newbie, Jules posted a link to a Peter Cook 6/12 Firebird that is a cousin of my Thunderbird... Flat Eric is the present owner, and if I pester him enough he may also post a Peter Cook bass that he owns...  8)

btw... that's indiscriminate use of a reptile, Bryan, and you know it...  ;D

Welcome to the LBO! I love the U.S. inspired but non U.S. manufactured basses (and guitars) that pop up here. Looking forward to seeing more of your collection.

Peter Cook Firebird Twin - from what Del Bromham told me, would be about '74 to '76.

I will post up some of my pics of it later, along with some more details. :)

Check out the Stray web site.

... and the pic I posted at the time FE's went up for sale...

From what I know, posting his collection may take some time...  ;)

Age wise, the TRC on the 6 will give some kind of indicator... your Axis has a metal TRC similar in style to my laminate one on the T'bird (which I got 3rd hand in '77) and the script on the 12 is similar to what I saw on the Axis... This would be so much easier if someone knew where Mr Cook is these days, and more importantly, if he wanted to discuss his history... there are a lot of WHO fans that would love to know the story...

Hi to all.

Not posted anything for a while, so thought I would do something a bit different
and bring this bit back to life.

Has anyone else got any Twins?
4&4, 4&8, 4&6, 6&12 - anything with two necks.

This is one of my most prized instruments, not absolutely mint, just very nice,
so I am not afraid of taking it out of the case!! ;)

In all his glory, meet Mr Ibanez 2640. :)

I could play this for hours. . . . .  if I could only stand up that long! ;D

Will post up some more of the basses, soon

All the best.

Flat Eric. :)

More switches than USS Enterprise but cooler than ice! Love those Jap "SG-like" axes!

These are my Hamer U.S. doublenecks...the marble Californian 6 & 12 has LED dot inlays and marble graphic; the red Cali 6 & 12 was Mike Fath's who you might recall from instructional videos/DVDs/Deam Markley, etc. ads; the snakeskin octave & 7 string was a one-off for Maestro Alex Gregory who had the patent for the 7-string guitar (and heavy metal mandolin guitars) that companies paid him royalties on for years; the bass & 6-string is from 1981 and possibly Hamer first doubleneck...the Cruisebass neck/body actually predates any Cruisebasses Hamer made. The natural quilted maple one is a Chaparral 4 with a Blades 8-string bass necks. All are set neck designs, except the snakesking one.

Hamer doublenecks are pretty scarce....not sure how I managed to scarf up this many and some of the most unusual ones at that!

OK, I missed this thread initially. What is that Ric clone???  ??? :o

I've got this Spirit by Steinberger 4/6. I haven't really bonded with it, so I think I'm going to sell it. It's been upgraded with REAL EMG pickups and preamps instead of the cheesy "Select" stuff. Cool axe, it just doesn't "speak" to me. I would REALLY like something with the guitar on top, but practically everyone makes them the other way around.

Ah, I'm glad you asked that!

It was made for the guy I bought it off, by a a small operation called Reeve Guitars.

Some time after I bought it, I contacted the original owner, who very kindly sent me this:

I'm afraid I can't help with much information. Reeve were a small family concern based out of a house in Luton. I was put in touch with them by my local music shop when I needed my Rickenbacker set up. A mate of mine at the time had a les paul copy made by them soon after, and though it wasn't to my tastes the actual craftsmanship was faultless. I'd wanted a Rickenbacker doubleneck for some time but there was no way I could have afforded one even if I could have found one! So I had Reeve make me one - they measured up my 4001 and I gave them a few photos from old catalogues and away they went. This would have been in about 1986 I think. At the time it cost me £750, which included the case, and I was very lucky to see the guitar evolve from a lump of wood to the finished article over a period of months.

Reeve were always fairly small fry. They made a lot of guitars for local musos (I remember a Hofner violin bass for a well respected covers band, the Wellington Bootles (!)) - although I do know they made another double neck and an explorer copy for a prog band who were fairly big at the time, Twelfth Night. Funnily enough I saw them a while ago (another band on the nostalgia circuit!) and the explorer was still being used.

I lost touch with Reeve many years ago. They were two brothers-in-law - one a carpenter and the other a musician. I do know that the musician brother is sadly no longer with us.

I hope this all helps, sorry I can't provide much more info!

The Twelfth Night are still going and I was very kindly sent this:

. . . . and finally, here is a Reeve Flying Vee - the Gibson TRC has been added later.

My Twin, I think, is unique - they made it as a One Off and is a truly great bit if kit.

I shall be back with more stuff, another time.

mc2NY - WOW - what a great collection!

Love the Six on top, Bass on bottom!
Still after one - the guitar would be much easier to play higher up.

Any more out there???

Cheers. :)
