My sister-in-law asked me to build a guitar for her husband as a birthday gift.
He asked for a Les Paul Scorpion. The one with the red stripe.
But with my own personal touch.

Didn't quite make it in time for his birthday (which was three weeks ago), but it's ready now.

The Brooks LP-SC. My first guitar build (I've only built basses so far)

That is lovely, the red stripe works so well. I do like the body binding as well, Maple/Sycamore? The gold hardware is great, I wish there was more available for basses (as in pickups really)

The binding of the neck and back of the body is flamed maple.
The binding on the topside of the body is not really a binding . It is a Paul Red Smith type binding.

Natural masked like Warmoth do? That guitar is simply gorgeous! Considering many parts of that work is very time consuming I'd say 3 weeks overdue on that guitar is well worth waiting for. Well done Rob!

I don't know what a natural Warmoth masking is.
But here's how I did it:

First I put masking tape on the parts that were going to be stained. Leaving the binding parts exposed.
Then I sprayed clear coat on the binding parts.
After that I removed the masking and stained the bass. The waterbased stain does not adhere to the clearcoat.

The Warmoth way turns out the same, but they first mask the edge of the top and stain or put solid finish on the rest. Then they remove the masking tape and do the clearcoat.

That wouldn't work with a stain. Waterbased stain will creep underneath the masking tape.

Haha, alright. I got curious because I wrote earlier from memory so I looked it up. This is how Warmoth describe their process:
"The process is to mask off the edges of the top wood, then spray or dye the body. The mask is then removed before shooting the clear coats. A dark color for the body gives the most contrast."
They don't say stain, but dye. I don't know the difference to be honest.  ???
