Gibson Basses / 3 Point bridge question
« on: March 13, 2015, 11:27:20 AM »
Is there a proper, specific method of setting up the three point bridge on Gibson, Epiphone basses? How much thought do you experienced players put into things like the angle the strings break over the saddles ect.....or am I just overthinking things here?

Curious to see if it will allow a lower action than the stock bridge or even the hipshot.

Do we have a link for this Babicz bridge?

the only other one I've ever seen was used by Loverboy's bass player, (Scott Smith)? I always thought it was pretty cool.

thanks for the reply, I'll take a look at that. I thought about trying some taper core strings. I think that would allow me to actually raise the bridge a little bit.

This is my first T-bird. Love it.

Question: I like a real low action, I have the neck set almost dead straight, and the bridge almost bottomed out and still no fret buzz. Is this typical? I feel it could go a little lower, 3/16ths from the top of the 12 fret to the bottom of the E string right now, any suggestions to get a little more adjustment? I've already cut the nut as low as I want to go.

Or maybe I just don't know how to setup a Thunderbird?

Picked up an Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV in Alpine White last week, really digging the bass. Went ahead and bought the case as well.

My first was a Hondo II P-bass copy, not really that bad.

I've actually owned crappier basses since then.

Those sure look nice, but for that kind of cash I think I'd lean a little more in this direction.

Paul! Great to see you here.  :)

Paul has been laboring for several years compiling very hard to find information and photo's from some of the finest Rickenbacker basses around the globe for this book. It will be a must for Rickenbacker fans.

Oh, and he also owns the "Rickenbacker Forest". :)

I hate to sound like an idiot here, but what exactly is a maple cap precision?

I have one of his fretted necks on my frankenjazz. The date is hand written on the heel of the neck. 11-'84.

Nothing cheap about them at all. Very high quality.

reeeeaalll interesting. Early Rick 4000 basses had set necks. Some were routed for the neck pickup at the factory and shipped out as 4001S basses.

This one has the full width inlays though. I've never seen a set neck 4001 with deluxe features.
