If you could ask Dennis Dunaway any question...?
« on: January 28, 2010, 05:37:30 PM »
... what would it be...?

Jules (Evil Lord Juju) has asked me for some assistance re an up-and-coming interview with the man, himself, as he's not fully familiar with his work...

Any of you Alice Cooper Group fans, or people familiar with any of his later work... (BDB, Bouchard-Dunaway-Smith, Dennis Dunaway Project, Blue Coupe, etc) your input would be welcomed...

Blue Coupe is his most active present line-up, featuring BOC's Bouchard brothers (Joe on guitar these days)

This is a set list I found...

Set 1:
Under My Wheels - Caught in a Dream - Cities On Flame - Fallen Angel - Paint It Black - Hot Time In Hell - Astronomy - I Ain't Got You - All Along The Watchtower - Burnin' for You - I'm Eighteen - Godzilla
Set 2:
Kick Out the Jams - Not Fade Away - Break On Through - Hey Joe - Death Valley Nights - I Wanna Be Sedated - Roadhouse Blues - Be My Lover - School's Out - Reaper
Encore with Bad Influence: Rock and Roll - White Rabbit
Set 3:
Honky Tonk Woman - Knockin' On Heaven's Door  - Fire On the Mountain - Little Kid - I Think I Slept w/ Jackie Kennedy - Joan Crawford Has Risen From the Grave - Simple Man - Johnny Be Good

Some live footage from here...

OMG!

He's a big influence on me.  I've posted shots of me (in mime) with the black block Jazz Bass.  That was all because of him.  HUGE influence on me.

I've always loved how he walks around the song, rather than sit behind the guitars.  I once read that Bob Ezrin really pushed the band at one point.   My question:

How did he come up with his style of playing?  When did it really click in with the original Alice Cooper Band?

p.s. - He's on my MySpace friend list.  I shot him a message, and he responded pretty quickly.  When I told him he was up there with Chris Squire and a few others in my book, he was very gracious and humble.  Cool set list, BTW.

Big plus one on his style development. What a great bassist. I've read that Glen Buxton taught him to play. I'd love to hear if that's true and what those early days were like.

Regarding his style, I'm curious how "Blue Turk" came about.  It's a great example of a disjointed bass line that works great.

Wow he still has it ! Best use of a Jazz bass I have seen in a long time ! I wonder what rig he is using there, his tone is pretty true to the original record. Is the Jazz stock or has it been modded ? What kind of picks strings etc is he using, then and now ?

Call me slow on the uptake.  I just figured out why the band is called Blue Coupe.  DOH!

Part of these have been included but they will all be passed on to Jules... anything else will be greatfully received...

I'd rather have a personal interview with Faye Dunaway.

Thanks Ken, for coordinating this. Good questions people, we shall ask all of these questions. I'm talking to him about the EB0 just now, and he's giving some great info. Gonna be a good one.

If anyone else has anything to ask, please let me know. The interview is being done gradually, so there is still time if you think of anything.

On a personal level I'd love to know about his life as a musician in the intervening years since ACG and the Billion Dollar Babies band. I know he's had a few things going recently (like with the Bouchard brothers), but did he continue playing bass or anything else all along? What's life like for someone after they leave the fishbowl?

These may not be appropriate for the type of interview you're doing, but I figured I'd throw them out just in case. I'm looking forward to reading it!
