The Outpost Cafe / Memphis Belle right down the road from me
« on: June 30, 2012, 11:21:52 AM »
My neighbor came by to tell me that a B-17 was flying overhead and was giving rides at the airport a couple miles down the road.  I ran over to look around.  This is the movie version of the Memphis Belle.  Originally built as a troop carrier in 1945, this plane served as the personal plane for a general in WWII and in the Korean War.  It was converted to a fire bomber after that.  It was sold in 1980 and converted back to a model B-17G, and was painted for use in the movie.  The P-40 that was supposed to be there had problems and didn't make it.  I figured you would like this.  BTW - I was not able to fit through the plane.  The bomb bay is about 6" wide, and the support struts were narrower than I am.
For $450, I would have been able to take a 30 minute ride around the city.

The Outpost Cafe / Need some country music experts

I'm looking for a song, one that I haven't actually heard, based on some general lyric content.  The gist of the song is a woman who wishes she had her young body back, with the man saying that he loves her just as she is.

I can't believe that I found this by accident before the aviation fans did.

I guess they expect these to be perfectly preserved.

The Outpost Cafe / Robin Trower in Wolfgang's Vault
« on: April 09, 2012, 05:55:47 AM »
There's a few shows available. I am always impressed with the sound quality of all this stuff, but with the Trower show on this link, the bass is right there, and Dewar's vocals are dead on, which is unusual for a live recording.  Just shows that back in "them old days", a real singer could be spotted a mile away.  Nothing but a little reverb on this, I'd guess.

Former Amboy Duke keyboardist Andy Solomon was a doo-wop nut.

The Bass Zone / Video with Jamerson
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:20:43 PM »
I don't know if you knew of this.  Someone posted it on the FDP, and I thought it belonged here.  A video of Martha and the Vandellas, with James Jamerson on bass.  You really don't find any footage with him.  This is pretty cool.

The Outpost Cafe / Playing in Chicago Feb 26
« on: February 23, 2012, 07:48:58 AM »
For any of you Chicago guys, I'm going to be playing at the Haymaker's reunion show at Durty Nellie's in Palatine this coming Sunday.

We go on about 6:00 pm, and I'll be using the fanfret Precision and the Holy Crap bass.  House rig is a SVT, but I may bring my Ashdown and run twin amps.

I promise a good train wreck.  We have one day to rehearse.  Yikes!
