BaCHBird - truss rod adjustment
« on: November 17, 2009, 10:13:14 AM »
Anyone know offhand what size allen wrench I need to adjust the truss rod on the BaCHBird?  For the first time in my life, all my basses need a tweaking.

Thanks!  I figured it was metric.  I didn't want to buy a whole set to figure out which one I needed.

I just found my first flaw in the bass.  Took the truss rod cover off.  6 holes, 3 screws.  Not pretty.  The screws were a little cockeyed, too.  Looks like there was a smaller cover on at first.  One hole is pretty far from the one that the screw was using.

Only 3 holes on my black one.  The truss rod adjusts very easily too.  I had to loosen mine as the neck was too straight.

There are multiple screw holes on mine as well.  I wonder if they had a few different templates for TRC holes and they grabbed the wrong one?

Incidentally, my bass came with an allen wrench.  I was rather surprised.

Maybe I should check the original box.  I still have it.

Guess what I found in the original packing?  Yup.  A loose-packed allen wrench in a bag.  It was floating down there in all the bubble wrap.  I'll bet nobody even checked but hollowbody.  Anyway, I've got my neck tweaked.  Thanks!

Mine has screwholes scattered all over under the trc too.

Another typical thing I discovered is that they had drilled the potmeter holes in the wrong place first. The thin layer veneer covers up that mistake. But if you look into the control cavity you can clearly see sort of "8-shaped" holes. At least that's what the first series had.

Small company, no fancy CNC equipment (yet). Think of these as a prototypes. They didn't do the prototype they originally planned to send to Rob and Uwe, so they worked it out on this run.

I found my allen key when I opened the box... then promptly lost it and had to find one that worked via good old trial and error.  Only three screw holes under my trc.  Haven't looked in the control cavity yet.
