The Outpost Cafe / Unread posts

Anybody else having trouble with the "Show unread posts" option? Twice now this week, I've clicked on it as usual, and there's nothing listed. Like they've all been marked as read.  ???

The Outpost Cafe / Rick's Picks (Cheap Trick)
« on: January 08, 2013, 09:50:52 AM »
For those of you that don't know, there's a great exhibit of tons of Rick Nielsen's guitars and misc. memorabilia at the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, IL, running through April. I hear it's going on the road after that. The museum itself is cool, and there's lots of other family stuff to do right in the area. Highly recommended! I posted a bunch of pics on my facebook page.

Gibson Basses / Baked Maple
« on: November 13, 2012, 08:58:07 AM »
OK, call me crazy, but Sunday, I decided to smell the fingerboard on my Explorer bass. LOL! It actually does smell like burnt wood! It IS possible the maple was not the only thing in the room that was baked...  8)

Gibson Basses / Epi Explorer - or- Fenderbird?
« on: October 04, 2012, 08:03:31 AM »
Torn.... Been jonesing for an Explorer for some time now. I love the look of the Epi "korina" models. I also really like the pickup placement - very similar to a Ric. I would drop in a pair of black plastic TB+... But... It wouldn't really do anything that my Fenderbird doesn't do already, though it may end up being more comfortable. The 'bird is heavy, and the way it hangs puts the neck at an angle I'm not used to compared to any of my other basses. But it looks incredible, and sounds GREAT!

Back to the Explorer - there's one on the 'bay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/170918883925?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT The guy accepted my offer of $480, INCLUDING shipping. Now I'm not sure about pulling the trigger. I feel like I'd have to sell the 'bird, but I have a special attachment to that bass having put it together myself in honor of JAE. I actually completed it on the 5 year anniversary of his death. And John, if I do, I'll certainly throw you some coin for the body.  :)

Thoughts???

Gibson Basses / LP on the bay...

Another odd variation on the theme. Looks like Barts, but it's a dot neck with a toggle switch. And is the s/n stamped AND inked? Regardless, the price is right.

The Bass Zone / It's a good night when...
« on: July 14, 2012, 10:23:08 AM »
The sound guy and his assistant can't stop telling you how perfectly awesome your bass tone is. Especially when it's a GOOD sound guy. "No matter where I put you in the mix, it was perfect!"  ;D Well, you'd have to try really hard to F that up with a Ric through a '74 SVT. It's also testament to how misguided some of the youngins are when it comes to tone. Bass has become so bland and generic in a lot of music these days. There's no magic bullet gear-wise that's going to get you a great tone. Start with the hands!

Does anybody know the dimensions of a Badass 1? Thanks!

Other Bass Brands / I bought a Spector
« on: April 23, 2012, 12:58:14 PM »
Going to the dark side I guess.  :vader: After several years of "de-activating" all but my fretless (which is pretty much what led me to the old Pit in the first place), I'm feeling the need for that sound again. Say what you will, but I dig it. I'm playing with a band that does mostly corporate/private event stuff, and covers a wide range of styles. My Geddy Lee Jazz through Sadowsky pre and Punch Factory compressor is doing a fine job, but even this one has a bit of "honk" to it when I try certain things. I just happened to stumble across a pawn shop special on Craigslist last week. A late 80s, Kramer era Korean made NS-2A. After several hours cleaning and tweaking, it's rockin! A great first step. I paid next to nothing, so I think I'll give this one to my daughter. I'm working a deal on another very cool one now...

Bass Amps & Effects / Vintage SVT ohm question

Can I run a 4 ohm cab out the standard speaker jack, and a 8 ohm cab out the extension jack on an old SVT head?
