Mr. Sixx basses
« on: September 10, 2009, 01:25:11 AM »
Hi guys,

I wasn't around that much here, but know I'm doing a hell of a job reading all unread posts.

Last week I bought German magazine Guitarre und Bass. I have no scanner, but I'll try to make some pics of it. In it is an interview of Nikki Sixx about his Thunderbirds. The big picture at the article is one of Nikki with a Spector (?) Bird with P/J pick ups, which isn't mentioned in the article. But in it are some nice pics of different Thunderbirds, all with different finishes. One with a rusty look, one with some kind of Maria on it. Very nice!

Sixx says pretty much the same thing about his Blackbirds and Signature models as he did in interviews ten years ago, namely the old adage that "the pups are in direct contact with the wood" (as allegedly opposed to a regular TBird), whatever that means.  ???

I was wondering about exactly the same thing!

Of course Strats have their pick ups mounted at the pickguard... Maybe he heard something once and he just doesn't know what he's talking about...

I've sent Phil (Jones) an email. He was involved in the Blackbird's development.

He's been in worse shape. What's a healthy gut compared to kickstarting your heart after another overdose?

There was a huge thread on that picture over at Metal Sludge with half of the posters freaking out that Nikki doesn't look 23 anymore and the other half saying they hoped they look that good at 50. I don't think I posted on it but I'm somewhere in the middle (opinion-wise) I guess. I see a very wealthy guy who has other priorities these days. Bastard...  ;D

Ok, maybe he has let himself go a little bit... :o

Here are some of Nikki's birds:

And here are the Spectors and Hamers:

And here's baby Nikki with the bird that started it all:

Yup. That's the only picture I've ever seen him with one, but there it is.

An unlikely combo if there ever was one. The man who denounces anything but a kill switch on his basses as getting in the way and then the Cape Canerval type on-board electronic maze of the Triumph!

From his Bird cage I like this one best, kinda Eric Clapton's SG The Fool:

I love the way Rolling Stone and other gossip rags always manage to catch the most unflattering photos of celebs.  ;D Overall, the guy looks great for a 50 year old former junkie who's spent most of his adult life as a touring musician.
