Title: I took my SG RI out this weekend.
Post by: Chris P. on June 22, 2009, 07:00:41 AM
I love the looks and sound of my SG Reissue Bass but in one way or another I don't take her out that much. This weekend I decided to give her a spin. Those pics were made during a Boilersuit gig. The next day I used it again with the La La Lies and those pics will follow later. I had a Boilersuit gig too that day (three gigs in two days) and I used my 50s P for that.

Those basses always look good - and I like their sound.  Definite winners.

Looks great. How did it sound and fit in with either group?

Uwe, I mentioned the Fender just to upset you:)

The nice thing about the SGRI, imho, is that it has has some different and decent usable sounds. I played both shows with both the pick ups fully open, At the pics you can see me play with both pick ups as thumb rest; above the neck pick up and underneath the bridge pick up. Playing more heavily towards the bridge gives a rumbling growling rock sound, which is a bit (sorry, Uwe) Fender-ish so good for rock songs. Playing near the neck gives a nice warm, fat, clean, smooth, big sound which is great for ballads. For The La La Lies I played near the bridge only and for Boilersuit I played near the neck for some slower songs.

Both times I played at the venue's rig. Boilersuit: An old Trace head with a Fender 1x15 cab. The La La Lies: An Eden head with Eden 2x10 and 2x12.

 Are you putting on weight?

Great pics! Very good photography.
In theses days of "no-depth-perception-every-picture-looks-flat" digital cameras, is nice to see some great pictures like these.

I like the 3 knobs, no switch controls on those RI, but I think they could made a better layout for it. It just looks kinda clumsy to me.
Functionality wise, is the placement OK?

Are you putting on weight?

Yeah, last couple of months I did. But I'm trying to get rid of it now! But I also believe you girls like a bit of a belly on a guy?

Both pics were made by semi-pros and nit by some hobbyists. And yep, that's me with the other girl.
I like this lay out, but I like the normal EB3 lay out better, if we talk looks only. But this'll do right. I thought of adding a pick up switch or changing the tone pot to a pu switch, but I don't know. It works. I don't switch pick ups in the middle of songs and it's quite easy to change between songs by rolling back the volume of one of the pus.

The problem is I drink lots of wine and not much beer... And Loes eats twice as much as me! But I have to stop with things like chips and crisps.

Ken, you're just undertall for your weight.

As for Chris, I don't see how anyone could tell his weight from these pics.

He does seem to be smiling more than usual.   ;D

Dave... "Undertall Victorious", to paraphrase a Jill Sobule song...

Mark... I'd have to dwarf you, Maam, to carry that weight with grace, and I just don't have your lovely legs...  8)

Now there's a target for you to broadside; shoot away, I'm big enough to take it...  ;)

Going to the RIAT show in July, but that is mostly up-to-date kit - just praying it will not be a total wash-out like last year for the RAF's 90th non-show...

Bret... is there a "little porkerism" going on down there in "God's Own back yard...", and talking of that, here's a scene (sorry Veronica) from the South Bank of the Thames in London this week, recreating Bondi Beach (???) in a bid to persuade people to emigrate...

Now there's a thought... Those legs are nearly as good a Lady V's...

@ Rob & Uwe: I bought that jacket more than ten years ago, when it was already raggety and second hand. I lived in that jacket for years. One of my first bands even had a song called Green Leather Jacket to honour that one:) I think it got four sets of new buttons over the years, there's almost no lining left, but I love it!

@ LeftyBass: I've got six of 'm now, all in different tunings, different pick ups on or off...
