I love me some lime green!  I know it is no muscle car (compared to the classics).

I need (another!) Thunderbird bass in that blue!

Note how cool it looks with CHROME trim  ;D

Nice idea!!

And not even the philistines amongst us would aver that "Barrier Blue" looks purple.

As if I would have owned a purple car.......

Remember, car paint is where Leo's guitar finishes came from.  It's pretty easy to work with.

I had a 66 Tempest. I grabbed a 4bbl intake from a Cat 389 in a junkyard and did some cookbook hopping up. H.O Racing had built 326 drag cars.  It was a great ride and could really screw. I still miss it.

Wow Mark- that GTO is gorgeous!

I just finished replacing the entire cooling and charging system in my 76 280z (semi-daily driver), and after being hunched over that thing and contorting under it for that long - I feel like I want to curl up into a fetal position and die.  I really admire people with the tenacity and stamina needed to pull a project like that off.  Amazing.

(This is why chrome rules, get it?)

I get it!  Check out the new "shoes" for my other project:

Getting the '38 (hopefully) ready for some winter fun!  Picked up some restored tru-spokes for it- can't resist the bright, shiny objects, and felt a change of pace was in order.  Still need to get some adapters for them, and some Coker 520 wide-whites (aka South Phoenix snow tires  ;)).

I have the head off my 1983 280ZX Turbo and will drop it off in Denver with a specialist later today.  I need a couple of broken off exhaust studs removed, and may have him port the head for improved breathing.  I'm NOT looking forward to putting it back together - it was a really difficult disassembly.

Praying that I don't have to do that anytime soon - good luck with it!  The next major thing I need to address is the struts, suspension bushings (still original, and gettin' sloppy), and wheel bearings.  The trans (5 speed from a 200sx) also developed a leak, and so I'll have to deal with that soon as well.

But for now- it's alive again!  Had to go into the office today, and took it on the 66mi round trip voyage.  I really missed driving it this past week.  Seems like invariably, there is always one part that is a week away from me- in this case the water pump.  Good news is that it was only $22 from NAPA  ;D  (wish my wife's car offered those kind of pleasant surprises!)

It was really fun working on it this time, since my older son (10yrs old) was out helping.  He was handling the wrench when possible, scraping off old gaskets, making new ones (rtv), installing thermostat, hoses, slipping the new belts on, etc...  After we were all done, I gave him the keys and let him fire it up.  He had the biggest grin!!

Glad your son enjoyed helping.  That's a great gift to him -showing him that he can do this stuff.

Struts are actually easy - I did mine with Monroe shocks (which stink) then removed the Monroes and discarded them.  I installed Tokico shocks in the struts and HIGHLY recommend them!  My suggestion - remove the strut as a unit, deliver it to a shop and have them remove the spring and change out the shock.  Safer for you.

I have a full set of poly bushings for the ZX in my garage but haven't installed them yet.

Wheel bearings are easy - less than an hour each side.  Your son deserves to learn the joys of packing bearings by hand.

Yeah - we're doing that on the old Buick now!  He'll be an old pro at it when we get to the Datsun.  :)

Thanks for the info on the struts (re: avoid Monroe).  Somewhere I think I still have some of the spring compressors to disassemble them, but I like your idea better.

The previous owner had installed some Tokico springs, but I'm not sure what the cartridges are.  It sits really low, and I just want to tighten up the ride a bit.  Planning to grab a set of the poly bushings too.

My old singer/guitarist LOVES those 280Z/ZX.  He sold a Vette to get one, and I think he still has one.  That, and the Lincoln and Jaguar.

Man, that thing's in nice shape! Totally got that 80s "futuristic" look. An old guitarist of mine used to carry a Marshall 4x12 in the back of one of these. Might have been a 4 seater though actually.
