Flatwound Strings for Gibson EB Series Basses (Short Scale)

My 1962 EB-3 headstock repair is almost complete and I would love to hear what strings you are all using on yours.
I bought the bass with the broken headstock so I had not been playing it before.

I'm looking to use a light gauge Flatwound, with decent bend-ability. (very CREAM-esque)

By the way, "old puppy", can't thank you enough for recommending "The Lutherie Shop" in Iowa to me in a previous post!!!

Got a set of GHS precision flats coming in the mail for one of my Danos...I'll let you know how they are...I'm hoping for a balance between old school sound with modern flexibility.

Excellent looking repair job!

I used GHS Precision Flats on my former 62 EB-0L and liked them. The short scale set only comes in 45-95.

I actually don't have an EB-3, but I have LaBella flats on most of my short-scales. Not too high tension, but not too loose either.

Ditto.  I normally use the Labella Deep Talkin' Flats, the 760FL-s (.43-.104) set. The next step up is the FM-S set at .49-.109, which is much too heavy for my taste.

I use the 760FS (.45-.105) set for 34" scale.

I have also used Rotosound flats and I really liked them, I just don't remember which set they were...although I think it was the 77's.

I don't have an EB bass, but I use TI Jazz Flats on my Guild JSII. They're great! Had them on a former Ric 4001V63 too.

On my SG RI I'm using a set of Pyramid flats that Uwe kindly mailed me.  They sound great for the Stones tribute I'm doing.

On my old EB-4L I used Dean Markley flats, which suited it nicely.

I believe my EB-3 came with GHS flats.  They sound and feel great.

o-k I strung up a Dano with GHS precision flats short scale

Sound and play great right out of the pack-no break in needed-e string vibrates freely and naturally.

Low tension, but not too low...these will be my "go to" flats--remind me of the strings that used to come on a RIC--now if I can only get the GHS nylon tapewounds to work on my Pace Bass...

i don't use flats but i love GHS strings i use "Boomers" on all my basses except the V ('cause i got some free Blue Steel's) and i use GHS strings on my guitars as well. nice job on that headstock by the way

I've played and play Pyramids, Labellas, D'Addorio Chromes, TI Flats, GHS, Roto Jazz, what have you. And I honestly can't say which strings sounded and felt best. If push came to shove I'd probably say the Labellas and the TIs (but many players feel these are too soft). I think you'd be hardpressed to find a set of flatwounds these days that does not sound good on your bass.

I have religiously used Rotosound RS66LD strings for years… thanks to Entwistle.

Although I have played Flatwounds before, I have never bought them or had them on a bass I’ve owned.
...but for this short scale EB-3, I think light gauge Flatwound are the way to go.

I appreciate everyone's input so far! Thanks!

yer welcome DC, glad they could help.

i am using roto sound flats on my Epi mod and it seems to like them although i have a set of TI Hofner flats in a pack just in case they fart out.

just for those who mght not remember my Epi EBO = Grover tuners, 60's "fart hammer pup", T-Bird tail piece to cure the three point bridge stud problems (thanks Doc), and afore mentioned flats along with one of Ken's repopped bridge cover/hand rests and some CTS pots.

(i don't think the flats are on in this pic but it has been in the closet since i moved to Texas = working on an old Fender amp right now. my little practice amp gave out and i am selling MR. MOJO = the Peavey 30 watt Classic in my Vox case!)

I've used Labella, Rotosound and GHS - really can't say I have been disappointed in any of them.
