He was THE player who got me interested in playing bass. I was and continue to be a huge fan.

"Don't Shoot Me..." was the first LP I ever bought.

It was a thrill to hold his Steinberger bass Ronn. I remember my sister coming home with the 45 record of Crocodile Rock when it came out.

Yellow Brick Road was the first ever LP I bought. And the Classic Albums DVD episode of that album is the best in the series. Dee was a great player, for sure.

My first "tape" was Billion Dollar Babies, then (1st LP) Muscle Of Love, followed by On The Border (Eagles) and Captain Fantastic... played CFATBDC to absolute death...

I'm kinda freaking out at that number. Has it really been that long?
Dee's bass lines were as important to my learning what a bass player does as McCartney's or any other's. The music I listened to as a kid taught me more about playing than anything I've listened to since. It's what made me want to play bass in the first place and will always hold that place at the top for me.

A (largely forgotten) talent. I always found a similarity between his and John Deacon's playing, another unsung hero.

He was big influence on me as a kid as well as I was just starting to play. I really love the old albums the best. RIP Dee.
On a somewhat related note Elton and his partner adopted a son that was born on Christmas day this last year. The little guy has like six first and middle name but what I thoughtt was very cool was that one of his names was Levon!

We're working on a second child, and if we get pregnant, and if it's a boy we're naming him Levon. Part for the EJ song, and part for Levon Helm, another hero of mine.

Cetainly would work for a boy born in Texas ;) The hard part would be to find the proper middle name so that it has the right sound and cadence when both names are said together ;D Regardless, that was always one of my favorite EJ songs and I like the name.

We were thinking Jesse for a middle name, was my grandfather's first name(Jesse James Roberts), and my dad's middle name(Lloyd Jesse Roberts), who went by L.J.
