Gibson Basses / SG RI Scale Length
« on: January 31, 2013, 10:09:57 AM »
Does anyone know if they are planning to make any SG RI basses also in long scale?  I have an American friend living in Denmark who has heard a rumor about this.  He would buy two immediately if such a thing as an SG RI 34 inch bass existed.  I've looked on the Internet and found nothing about this.

The Outpost Cafe / Beware of Mr. Baker

I've read several articles about this documentary over the past few months, but this "Nashville Scene" article that just came out today is one of the best, IMO.  I'm even more interested in this than the Eagles' documentary, although it's looks like this is going to be another grim one.

The Outpost Cafe / Eagles' Documentary

For anyone interested in the Eagles, this will most likely be worth watching.  It looks to be an attempt at objectivity and will include rare archival material, etc.  Of course, you'll need to be on Showtime.  In this case, I lucked out since it's one of the few things I have on cable.  I don't even have HBO.

Sounds like something interesting for people in the area able to go see something like this.  I'd like to hear a review of that.

The Outpost Cafe / Hendrix's Experimental Turn

I have a feeling I'm probably not going to like this very much.  Hendrix doing Earth, Wind, and Fire doesn't really much appeal to me.  Needless to say, I'll know for sure in March when this "new" album is released.

Other Bass Brands / Hofner Shorty Travel Bass
« on: October 28, 2012, 10:06:35 AM »
These seem to be available all over the place now.  I can't find any reviews.  It seems it would almost have to be worth $200, though.

Note:  I found this video review after posting.  I didn't particularly find the bass very impressive, but it still might be worthwhile as a travel bass.

Maybe do a little research before shooting someone you think might be a skunk?

The Outpost Cafe / What happened to Muse?
« on: October 08, 2012, 07:59:09 AM »
I always look with anticipation for each new Muse album.  "The 2nd Law" was released just a few days ago.  My CD is still on its way in the mail, but I got to listen to the album for the first time last night.  Now, for the first time in my life, I realize why there are a lot of people out there who don't like Muse.  Seriously, I never understood this before, but I do now.  This album sounds like a horribly botched attempt to provide theme music for a James Bond movie.  If Matt Bellamy wants to spend his time with Kate Hudson or whatever he is doing instead of focusing on music, that's his business.  He has a free will to do whatever he wants to.  All I know is that as a consumer, I'll think twice before pre-ordering a Muse album again.

The Bass Zone / Rushton Moreve
« on: September 07, 2012, 05:38:07 AM »
From time to time, I like to focus on bassists who are obscure, but still have some significance.  In reading about Rushton Moreve (Steppenwolf's original bassist,) I discovered a few things.  Magic Carpet Ride was actually co-written by him.  He was kicked out of the band after their second album.  His girlfriend (who was Aldous Huxley's granddaughter) had convinced him that California would sink into the ocean; so he refused to travel there.  Years later, though, he did die in an accident in California.  It wasn't in an earthquake, but obviously following his ex-girlfriend's advice to stay away from California looks like it would have been a really good idea after all.

The Bass Zone / Randy Meisner
« on: September 05, 2012, 01:42:38 PM »
In trying to look up info about Randy Meisner, I was somewhat surprised there doesn't seem to be much out there.  When is the last time someone came up with a bass line like the one to "Hotel California" anyway?  I love what he does with that.  Can't get enough.  So, my hat is off to Randy Meisner, someone who is better than many others who get more attention (as far as I'm concerned.)
