.... Actually, my biggest problem is the narrow neck and string spacing - almost everything is a 20mm spread string to string - I've come across a few that would work outside of that limitation.

The Schaller 2000 (not the roller bridge) will work even on string spacing of 2" or a little less. But it's very low profile, it would probably have to be shimmed. And it's not cheap. It has a 5-hole Fender pattern base.

You are correct, Granny - the spacing of the mounting bolts (I'm not going down Mark's slippery language slope again) is narrower - I compared it to a 3-point I had laying around, and it's a no-go. Tragically, Uwe's stroke of genius may not do the trick either. I may have to end up just slamming the bridge down to the body with a pair of generic 8x1.25 bolts. Actually, my biggest problem is the narrow neck and string spacing - almost everything is a 20mm spread string to string - I've come across a few that would work outside of that limitation.
make sure you lube your "mounting bolts"

There is another simple trick: How about filing the saddle sluts, errm, slots deeper? That should give you quite a bit lower action unless the saddles are already so low that filing them deeper will have the strings contact the bridge.

Good idea - and I have considered it, but (seriously)...
The tool I have is too large for that slot, and I fear if I open it up too much, it will never be the same. ;D  ;D

If the bridge in question has slots, it must not be a nylon saddle copy.

In any case, minor surgery can tighten up those loose slots. It's disconcerting to have your string wandering around aimlessly in a big slot.

Disconcerting?
Actually the saddles are plastic - nylon would be an improvement.
I'm just surprised that we haven't discussed as to whether a really good nut would help the problem. I wouldn't want one of those black ones - I think the old school bone is preferable.
