I got this one about fifteen years ago , after looking for one for years . They didn't come up for sale much here in Halifax . I wanted a later 4001 . And I fell in love with it . I still get a little weak in the knees when I look at it . Bypassed the cap and strung it with TIs . It has a gorgeous old school thump . But it's rich . This is the reason I appreciate a nice Ric .
Not too long ago I wanted to trade my trusty FG 4001 for a 4000, for no other reason than looks! One pickup basses grow on me - and Rick's look so much better with one pickup..
The horseshoe had six pole pieces too .
Can't bring myself to put flats on a Ric, I like the Ric Clank too much. Fresh rounds on the '73 and broken-in rounds on the Shadow, that's as far as I'll go. For thump I have my P's and Hofners. That's a really nice application of FG.
