I like this mod. Recent 4003 JG modded to look like a '68 - with wavy Grovers, Plexi 4001 TRC, crushed pearl wide inlays, checkerboard binding, wide pickguard, Plexi tug bar, toaster at 1/2", and gap tooth tailpiece. All this plus a neck that can handle modern strings. $2,586 BIN

From the photos it looks very well done, but mods like these almost never increase the value. OTOH it's not out of line with other eBay asking prices on guitars and basses from Japan. Somebody might bite.

Nicely done, and the price seems reasonable if you REALLY want something like that.

Agreed. You need to be a Rick otaku to buy it.  It is handsome, but not compelling.

Well, this description fits just about anyone who has a cell phone and can't put it down for two seconds to do something that might require both hands to do.

REALLY nice FireGlo 4003S from 1995 when the necks were still slim. I think the price is right.

Beautiful burst and fretboard grain. Too bad it was still fat horn years.

I like the fat horns. I've got 2. Skinny horns on the CS.

By 1964 they had the perfect proportions, pickguard shape, everything. All it needed was a neck that doesn't fold under the tension of medium gauge strings. It was a work of art. Why did they have to mess with it? Everybody did weird stuff in the 70's and 80's, but one thing Gibson and Fender never did even back then was mess with the classic shape.

But they did! Gibson had the most gorgeous line of solidbodies in 1965. Both sg guitars and eb basses. Then they first narrowed the neck/nutwidt, and by early 70's they made the body bigger and dropped the stylish bevelling...
