Only one I saw in person was hanging in a local store for several years.

"4003" and "Original, no modifications". OK...

QuoteWell loved and taken care of by one owner.
Which one?  ;)   Certainly not the seller, eh?

Dave W

I'm confused. Was the seller well taken care of by the original owner?   ???

Ric needs to bring back the Dimarzios and mini-switches for that unmodified vintage tone.

I'm guessing that is an X2N-B and a Model G in the bridge? Very much a product of the era! How would it sound?

Paul Boyer

I messaged the seller with suggested corrections. It's a 4001 in yellowed white, not a 4003 Mapleglo. And of course all the pickup stuff is not anywhere near standard. I suggested value of $1200-$1600 and that $6gs was "optimistic."

All I can say is: that guy has impeccable taste as it relates to aftermarket Dimarzios  ;D

Not sure. Probably not very much like a Ric.

Your suggested value is right on. The market will take care of his optimism.

He still hasn't corrected the description.

Me too.  ;D I didn't even catch the MapleGlo part! Might actually sound pretty wicked.

Same here. Searched long and hard for one like Savage's, and finally found one last year - an '81.  Same exact setup as the bass in the video, but in '59 burst flametop with a preamp.  That one is all mahogany w/chunky D profile neck.  The black one is a '90 with maple neck.  Profile on that one is much like a Tbird.  Came with black hardware and EMG-HBs, but Carlo helped me out with the chrome bits, and Jon helped me out with the pickups (and bass!).

Really like the Dimarzios in 'em... but I'll stick with a toaster and hi-gain in my 4001, thank you very much!  8)

one like Savage's,

when I was prepping the video  for the tour I did with Leppard, I spent a bunch of money having 3d models of a Jackson Strat, a gold-top Les Paul and a Hamer explorer  made so that I could spin them around on the screens during one of the songs.
Despite having checked the make and model with management beforehand, and them signing off on the footage, it wasn't until the first show when I found out Sav had switched to Washburn J shapes. too late to do anything about it, that section of the show always bugged the shit out of me

I got my fix when I had an Alembic Exploiter in the '90s!

Seller still hasn't corrected the listing. Not that anyone is going to offer anything remotely near that, but when you've been informed nicely that your info is way off base and you do nothing to correct it, you're somebody I wouldn't buy from anyway.
