Gibson Basses / Re: Lull pickups in LP bass?
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:22:47 AM »
Hmmm.  Okay then, not a direct replacement. Oh well. It is odd that the humbuckers are noisy. I have spent a long time trying to figure out why.  I'm lucky enough to live in the same city as Phil Jones ( lp standard designer) and he looked it over.  Seemed to think everything checked out. No faulty electronics. I'll look into the Lindy Fralins.

Gibson Basses / Lull pickups in LP bass?
« on: October 12, 2009, 12:41:03 PM »
Does anyone know if this will work without serious modifications?  I have a recent Les Paul bass with the chrome pickups.  One of the things that keeps it from getting played more often (besides weight!) is that the humbuckers are really noisy in some rooms.
Also, I'm just curious to know how they would change the sound of the instrument.

Gibson Basses / LP standard/mono cases gig bag?
« on: September 30, 2008, 08:49:46 AM »
hey folks,
Is there anybody out there with access to both an LP standard bass and a mono cases bass gig bag?  I've been told by the folks at mono that it SHOULD accommodate the tilt neck, but they can't test it.  I'd hate to order and have to return, as they don't cover shipping.  Also, if anyone has another suggestion for a quality bag, I'd love to hear it.  It's tough to find one that fits it comfortably.  I might just break down and get a nice leather bag, but like the idea of a little more support for that neck.

Gibson Basses / Hipshot D Tuner on LP standard
« on: February 08, 2008, 06:07:14 PM »
I just bought a hipshot detuner for use on my Les Paul bass.  The model was the GB7, which is made to match grover tuners.  Everything lines up, but the post is about a quarter inch too short.  Bummer!  It works, but its a little funky.  The post wobbles a bit, and I think the string windings might be catching because of it.
Has anyone successfully put a hipshot on their LP?  If so, was there a trick or did you use a different model?  Should I just call it a wash and use my tuner?
Thanks,
-Geoff

Other Bass Brands / Re: Tobias Toby

The Tobys are a good value.  I try to avoid playing 5 strings, but have always kept one around for when I get "those gigs".  I had a toby pro for over a year, and never got any complaints at gigs.  Played well, and felt pretty good.  They are notorious for low output.  I ended up selling mine for much more than I expected, and got the only 5 string I've ever really wanted (sting ray!).
Over all, I think the Toby PRO is a good value if you can score it at the right price.
