I have one of these - really nice bass and build quality.  The pickups and preamp offer a wide range of sounds (some full, meaty, with great mids), varitone is a nice touch, neck feel is great (shallow profile, fast, 32" scale), the brass-mass bridge makes it ring out, the 4mm gap between the root and octave strings (octave on top) makes the octaves strings chime with a vengeance.  Hard to play fingerstyle, but great with a pick.

Downside?  It weighs 13.4 lbs  :o

The good news is that Japanese gem just needs a little polishing. They're pretty tough basses. That laminated neck doesn't move much.
