I know the Epi TB's that came in my Les Paul Standard sucked bigtime: all nasal mids with little bottom and high end. They had six polepieces, but not the brass bottom plate. They also weren't overwound but they sounded that way. I've played enough new Gibson Thunderbirds side by side to know that the variation in their pickups is huge. Out of eight new ones I tried in Nashville awhile back, only one sounded decent at all.

OTOH, it's nice to see Gibson finally noticed the Thunderbird is somewhat marketable now that several other companies are making copies of it concurrently.

According to the Press site of Epiphone's, there will be a Pelham Blue EB3, a Genesis guitar and there are pictures of the Pro-series with the T-bird Pro. But not a neck through one but the silver one, which was posted here before?!? (With bolt-on neck)

What's the story?

Near the bottom of the page. This is legitimate information. I've seen two online retailers list the week of 5/27 as confirmed for shipping.

Why isn't it listed on the Gibson website yet?

I just ordered the Thunderbird Classic IV from Sweetwater. Detailed NBD post as soon as I get it (says they'll get it the week of 5/27, so maybe 2 weeks?)

Sweetwater's site says 5/27 but every other web site I've checked shows a September ship date.  Something doesn't seem quite right.  ???

Is that Eb3 the usual long scale version or 30"?

Zzounds says it's long. Probably is.

With Epiphone, you never know until it actually gets here.

Looks like Zzounds sold out of however many they ordered during their pre-sale. Their website had them for sale and said they'd be getting them 'soon.' Now it says 'More Expected Sep 11'

I have strong doubts whether that EB-3 is long scale, the bridge is too much to the middle, the mini pup as close to the bridge as it is only on shorties. A three point on a long scale SG bass with regular size body should neary fall off and the minibucker should be a handwith away from it as it is on the EB-3Ls of yore.

I know I'm not the only guy on this forum that ordered one of these from Sweetwater, but I'm getting wary now. Their website originally said that they had confirmed shipment from the manufacturer (Epiphone) for the week of 5/27. Now their website currently says that they've placed the order and are waiting for the earliest shipment. Meanwhile, the Epiphone website has a street date of August.

I've already emailed Sweetwater and I'm waiting for a reply. I'll update as soon as I have more information.

I'm not surprised at the delay. American Musical says it's expected 9/1.

Official word from Sweetwater is August. Upsetting, but better than nothing.
