If you're thinking about the same picture/thread from TB that I am, that was a 335 Bass.

Could have been. Can't remember where I saw it. If it is, it still leaves the question of what's inside those ES-LP Bass pickups.

Not a gut shot, but a pretty detailed description of the MHS Bass Humbucker. I can't find any info on the 335 Bass pickup other than it's a Humbucker.

That seems to be different from the 335 bass pickup. I'd guess it's a 4-pole design rather than 6-pole like the 335 bass. Without removing the cover, spreading iron filings on the cover to locate the poles would answer the question.

Some years ago a Gibson guy at the NAMM or Musikmesse told me the 335 humbuckers are juts guitar humbuckers.

The pic I saw, wherever it was, had a standard guitar humbucker bobbin, but with only 6 of the 12 polepiece holes filled.

I did my weekly check of Gibson's website to see if it has appeared in the bass models yet. Not yet, but now there's a timer counting down to when the new collections will be released. Under 14 days now. Since Mark at CME said late May, that timer is probably the formal release date by Gibson, not necessarily in the stores. We'll see.

Remember how long it took for the Epi Vintage Pros to show up?

I remember them being on the Gibson web site a while back, but then they disappeared.  Can I assume there will be no left-handed models?

You're probably right. The Doublecut Junior guitar that inspired this bass is only available right hand, at least so far.

At least less temptation for me, I guess.

UPDATE

The other day somebody at MyLesPaul wondered about the release date, so I copied my original post in this thread. I was sent a link to a thread at Talkbass; somebody saw my post at MLP and posted at Talkbass that CME will have them with chrome pickguards:rolleyes:

But if you scroll down from the TB post, another poster says that they are releasing on April 29 according to Sweetwater. He pre-ordered and his ships this coming Monday.

Another update, checked that TB thread, one guy already has his in hand. I guess tomorrow really is the release day.

Satin finish looks nice.

This page is back up
https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/USACYC512/Les-Paul-Junior-Tribute-DC-Bass#SKU-BAJDT00B2CH1

And there's now 7 basses listed on the main basses page, inluding the JR DC:
https://www.gibson.com/Guitars/Bass

Also noticed: 2 of those are "SG Standard" and "SG Standard 2019" which appear to be identical, maybe the pages are still in flux.

And the T-bird is now shown with chrome bridge.
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy
