 At $289.00 ea they're not cheap, I never said they were. They are pretty much always available and being new I'd personally choose this over a 40 year old unknown alternative.
All I can say is the difference in my BaCH is immense, I won't even play my new trans red one out with the stock Artec, the Lull kicks it butt plain and simple.

What he said.^^ But to replace the pickups in my TH-2 would cost more than the bass, case, shipping and wire fees combined, so I probably will not be doing that anytime in the near future. (Maybe it it were as thin and light as the TH-1)

I'm thinking of a future custom build.

Mark, The Tahiti Coral Non-Reverse 8 string bass you got from me that I built has Orvilles. They look identical to the newer black ones from the bottom, yes indeed, epoxied on the bottom. The depth is deeper, like a 70's bird, not a 60's. The tone blows away any 70's T Bird Pickup, almost blows away a 60's. The pickup ring in the bass is a Chrome 60's pickup ring from a Non Reverse bass I once owned. YOU told me that the Lulls were totally different in size than the Orvilles, that the width was off. If they are exactly the same as a 60's, how could they not fit into the bird??? Besides the fact that the Lull's are not as deep as the Orvilles, they should be the exact same size. Tell me where i am wrong. Maybe I misunderstood you. As for Hollowbody....Do you have any Orville Thunderbird pickups??

Per Mike's website his pickup measures:
3 5/8" x 1 5/8" x 1/2" which should be the same as '60s Gibson.

Orville pickups by measure witha caliper:
3 5/8 x 1 9/16 x 7/8"

Smaller slightly and deeper, if I were to trade them out for Lulls I'd have to have the PG recut and the pup routs filled........which I'm not likely to do to that beautiful bass.

GOTCHA!!!!! Seriously, you would most likely have to put a small piece of Mahogany, if any at all, only on the bottom, not the sides, of the pickup route to compensate for the depth. You may not even have to. PG wouldn't be a big deal. Hey...I tried to upload a Picture of my 12 string thunderbird but had problems. File was too big?

The problem is if the magnets are dead they can't be easily replaced. Can they re-magnify magnets?

Yes, you can re-charge magnets. But you must know how strong they were in the first place to charge them accordingly.
