BTW - the bass I am talking about is also a converted EB-O.

With Chisonics? :o   Pix or it didn't happen! ;D   Was it you that had that old Darkstar'd EB-3?

Seriously, it might help if you have a shot of the wiring that you can post.  We might be able to see if there's anything obvious there that's contributing to the quirkiness...

And yes, i had the EB-3 with Darkstars. Good memory!!!  A friend out in Western Mass has it now. It's still crankin'
