I have my pet subjects! And it is all connected anyway. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (drummer and bassist of Deep Purple, Jake!) saw the Sex Pistols live and liked them. As did Rory Gallagher, so much he disbanded his band thereafter and binned a whole album ("Notes from San Francisco"). Even Ian Anderson (singer of Yes, Jethro Tull) liked them. The "us against them" was hyped by the press at the time.
A classic quote of the time was by Jimmy Page in the NME who when asked whether the Sex Pistols concert he saw and liked reminded him of his Yardbirds days of yore: "No, they reminded of the Led Zeppelin rehearsal we had just before Robert and I slipped away to see them!" Zep were at the time practicing Presence tracks to take on the road.
Ah, such shattered illusions and preconceptions!
